Natural beauties are well preserved by nature within its geographical settings. Preservation of such landscapes by the surrounding population, to create ecological settings and hot spots for tourism or for biodiversity research and speciation within landscapes such as this would be an economic benefit to the surrounding communities. Conservation of the ecological footprints within this landscape would also be a bonus for the benefit of our future generation.

A unique bird species found in PNG.

Interesting Fact - The Island of New Guinea contains 7% of the world’s biodiversity yet is only 1% of the world’s landmass. That is pretty impressive.

Did you know ... PNG's forests are of truly global significance making the country a custodian of an international public good. is home to the world's 3rd largest intact tropical rainforest + the 5th largest intact forest overall.

Sight seeing around Mt Giluwe.

Every week local boys take their time to walk the tracks around Mt Giluwe, and this is done as an expedition and leisure while fishing up the Mapele (Iaro) River to the foot of the Mountain.
These boys enjoy the trips as it leaves a memory of their recollections up at the mountain top.

Our rainforest environments in PNG hold valuable biodiversity flora and fauna species that needs to be protected for our future generation.

So far there are no baseline data created for most of our tropical rainforest environment ecosystems to account for every species of Flora and Fauna that exist within our regions. For example Mt Giluwe has some of the most unique and endemic species of plants and animals that cannot be found anywhere else in the world.

The logging in 1973 by Beechwood Pty Ltd has created a significant environmental damage in approximately 42,000 hectares of forest land that caused so much stress for the regeneration of its indigenous tree species such as nothofagus, N.G Beech, gymnosperm species of p.papuanus, dacrydium nidulum, etc with the destroyed areas of Mt Giluwe.

While promoting and actively participating on climate change in PNG, the government should make serious decisions to rehabilitate and roll out reforestation programs for the Mt Giluwe rainforest area. Imbonggu has so many of the anthropogenic grasslands or non-forest landscapes that need to be replanted with selected tree species to contribute to combat climate change and UN REDD+ initiatives.

The vast resource our country is blessed with need to be accounted for all its species of Flora and Fauna in a form of establishing baseline data inventories for our future generation. This also helps to combat climate change in the years to come.

One of the very fine tree species that can do well in the highlands of PNG in colder climates and rugged topography on swamplands and savanna plains is the Eucalyptus tree. The specific species that can do well are Eucalyptus pellita, E.robusta, and E.grandis, have high biomass properties and are very good carbon stockers.

Shown here are some of the flora and fauna species of Mt Giluwe rainforest environment.

The alpine vegetation of Mt Giluwe with its richness in biodiversity of which some species found here are not found anywhere else in the world.
Papua New Guinea government and responsible authorities such as CEPA and Climate Change need to preserve some of these landscapes and biodiversity species contained herein.
