Christmas safety tips

Make sure you buy children's gifts for the correct age group and from reputable retailers and ensure they comply to safety standards.

Remember to buy batteries for toys that need them – that way you won't be tempted to remove batteries from smoke alarms.

Look out for small items that could pose a choking hazard to young children, such as button batteries, which if not caught early, can do serious damage to the gastrointestinal system. Never leave these items lying around and make sure that children know not to put them in their mouths, ears or up their noses.

Keep decorations and cards away from fires and other heat sources such as light fittings and don't leave burning candles unattended.

Remember, Christmas novelties and decorations are not toys and they do not have to comply with toy safety regulations - place them high up and out of reach of young hands.

Give yourself enough time to prepare and cook Christmas dinner to avoid accidents that come from rushing, and wipe up any spills quickly.

Have scissors handy to open packaging, so you're not tempted to use a knife, and have screwdrivers at the ready to assemble toys.

Beware of trailing cables and wires in the rush to connect new gadgets and appliances, and always read the instructions.

Falls are the most common accidents so try to keep clutter to a minimum and make sure stairs are well-lit and free from obstacles.

Plan New Year fireworks parties well in advance and follow the Firework Code.

Do not drink and drive, and plan long journeys so you won't be driving tired.

As we come together to celebrate Christmas and close out another year, I want to take this opportunity to reflect on what we’ve achieved together.

Every day across our sites, from housekeeping to catering, logistics to compliance, you demonstrate professionalism, resilience, and care. It is because of your commitment that
PNG Mining and Petroleum Hospitality Services Ltd continues to deliver the best hospitality services in Papua New Guinea.

This year marks a remarkable milestone: six consecutive years of incident-free operations and the 10th anniversary of PNGMPHSL.

That achievement is not just a statistic — it is a powerful testament to your
dedication to safety, discipline, and looking out for one another.

Safety is the foundation of everything we do, and your vigilance ensures that our clients can rely on us, our families can trust us to return home safely, and our company can stand proud as a leader in service delivery.

Every Christmas season, our clients expect excellence, and every year you deliver. From spotless housekeeping to world-class catering, you raise the standard higher and higher.

The festive period is one of our busiest times, yet you consistently achieve results that make our clients happy and strengthen our reputation. I look forward to another amazing Christmas outcome this year, knowing that your teamwork and dedication will once again shine through.

Christmas is also a time to pause, recharge, and celebrate. Please take this opportunity to enjoy time with your families and loved ones but also remember that safety does not take a holiday. Whether you are working onsite or traveling home, stay alert on the roads, celebrate responsibly, and continue to look out for one another.

On behalf of the operations team, I extend my heartfelt thanks to each of you.

Your hard work, your care for safety, and your pride in service make all the difference.

I wish you and your families a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. May 2026, bring you joy, good health, and continued success.

Warm regards,

Since then, James has consistently demonstrated a remarkable attitude towards his work, combining reliability, strong ethics, and an unwavering commitment to teamwork.

His colleagues within the PNGMPHSL Gobe HSEQ team have observed his outstanding contributions since April 2022, noting his ability to inspire others through his dedication and positive approach.

James is widely regarded as a true team player. He willingly assists across all sections whenever instructed by his supervisor, never hesitating to step in where help is needed.

What makes him stand out is his willingness to accept every task without complaint, completing each assignment with diligence and a positive attitude.

This level of engagement demonstrates not only his commitment to his own safety but also his dedication to the well-being of his colleagues.

James’s efforts have not gone unnoticed. He was nominated by the client as a Safety Champion for Lanco Company – PNGMPHSL, a recognition that reflects his outstanding contribution to building a safe and supportive workplace.

His commitment was further acknowledged by the Santos Safety Team, which praised his strong engagement and interaction with the safety program.
