Want to learn more about our EMKP collaboration with Alburquerque’s salt makers, potters and community to document, safeguard and revitalize the endangered practices and knowledge of Asin Tibuok?

Working together with local practitioners, this ongoing community-based effort is helping to support the livelihoods and living traditions of the people who continue to practice this craft and ensure that this unique tradition can be passed on to future generations.

NEWS UPDATE: Representatives for Asin Tibuok are currently attending the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage to have asin tibuok inscribed on the UNESCO list for safeguarding 🎉🎉

Please join me in congratulating the salt makers, salt potters and community representatives for their steadfast dedication to protecting this important cultural heritage!

Moreover, we extend our ongoing thanks to the British Museum’s Endangered Material Knowledge Program (EMKP) for their support of our 2022-2023 Asin Tibuok documentation project, which has brought much-needed attention to this endangered practice helping to promote broader public awareness and appreciation of the tradition and the practitioners.
