Forest degradation and increased demand for plywood continue to be an issue for the plywood sector, and the problem is worsening year after year. Nevertheless, "In 2010, the Philippines had 13.2 million hectares of natural forest, accounting for more than 62 percent of the country's land area. In 2019, it lost 48.2 square kilometers of natural forest, the equivalent of 19.1 million tons of CO2 emissions." As per Tilasto website, the volume of plywood produced in the Philippines in 2019 is 302 thousand cubic meters, indicating a high demand for trees used to manufacture the plyboard, which encourages people to cut down more trees, resulting in a long-term negative effect on the environment. Primary forest loss and loss of tree cover contribute significantly to climate change, soil erosion, flooding, and a variety of other catastrophes.

Ecoply Manufacturing Company is formed by 8 partners who want to make a difference in fighting environmental pollution. The company is located at Bacolod City, Negros Occidental Philippines, the city of smiles and the city of vast sugarcane production. The company commits itself to preserve the environment by producing quality environmental-friendly wood panels to promote responsibility, the integrity of creation, and sustainability. Ecoply will produce wood panels made of bagasse to help eradicate deforestation while helping the Filipino community in building homes.
