As human population expands, the risk of dangerous diseases jumping from animals to humans increases. Without wildlife health, we are flying blind and we are risking biodiversity loss and are also risking human lives.

For a time, Tsavo was a notorious poacher's route but in 2024, the Tsavo Trust was able to protect elephants through a solar-powered fence. It also brought some relief to nearby communities because when farmers and elephants share a space, conflict is inevitable.

The elephants destroyed crops which led to retaliation. No crops meant poverty especially in Tsavo where the dry seasons stretch for 7 months. So you can see how difficult it was for humans and elephants to live close to each other.

Thankfully, elephant-human conflict has gone down by 90% since the trust built the fence.
