This Womenโs Month, we proudly celebrate the extraordinary life of ๐ก๐ฎ๐ป๐ฎ๐/๐๐ป๐ฎ๐ป๐ด/๐ง๐ถ๐๐ฎ ๐ ๐ถ๐น๐ฎ๐ด๐ฟ๐ผ๐ ๐ง. ๐๐๐ฒ๐ป๐ฎ๐ณ๐ฒโa woman whose strength, vision, and compassion transformed not only her own journey, but the lives of countless others in her community.
At 89 years old, Maโam Mila stood as a shining testament that purpose does not retire, passion does not fade, and service does not end. Since 1989, she devoted herself to fish processing, turning humble beginnings into tides of opportunities for growth, empowerment and sustainable development. Through dedication and hard work, she became a respected figure in postharvest fisheries, an embodiment of resilience and innovation.
Her leadership flourished when she became actively engaged with the bureau in 2008 through the training of the Binmaley Rural Improvement Club (BRIC), and even more so when she was elected Municipal FARMC Chairperson in 2011. Under her guidance, BRIC and Seafood Products rose to prominence and later evolved into JBโs Aquafarm and Seafood Products, now successfully managed by her children, proof that her legacy continues to thrive.
But her greatest accomplishment was not measured by awards or titles; it was measured by the women she uplifted. Through fish deboning, smoking, and value-adding technologies, she opened doors of opportunity for fellow rural women, providing them with income, dignity, and hope. She transformed knowledge into livelihood and struggles into stepping stones toward success.
Recognized in 2019 as the Department of Agricultureโs Regional Winner for Outstanding Rural Women and ranked 6th National Finalist, she became a symbol of what empowered rural women can achieve. The development interventions in postharvest technology extended to her group were also honored as Best GAD Project Implementer by the RDC-Regional Project Monitoring Committee through NEDA RO1, affirming the impact of her visionary and transformational leadership.
Her influence reached far beyond her municipality. She became a trusted resource speaker locally and internationally, sharing her expertise in fish processing and postharvest innovation. She was invited to seafood expositions and the National Food Summit as a key stakeholder; her voice representing grassroots women in national conversations.
Ma'am Mila's leadership of BRIC gained international recognition when the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations featured their association in the case study This global acknowledgment reflected what her community already knew, that Maโam Mila was a catalyst for change.
She lived by the powerful words:

And indeed, she climbed every stair with courage, faith, and determination, bringing others with her.
This โsMonth, we celebrate her not only as an outstanding rural woman, but as a mother of empowerment, a champion of inclusive development, and a beacon of inspiration in fisheries and community leadership.
Her life reminds us that when a woman believes in her capacity to lead, to innovate, and to serve, she becomes unstoppable, and she inspires generations to rise.
May her legacy continue to ripple like waves across our communities, encouraging every fiSHEr to dream boldly, work passionately, and lead fearlessly.
