From Php500 to Success: The Story of Linkin’ Art

In 2002, armed with only Php500 and a deep passion for the arts, Mr. Santiago A. Maraveles, Jr. of Bislig City took a bold step into entrepreneurship. It began as a small venture, the Maraveles Artshop, rooted in creativity and hard work, offering manually crafted streamers, signboards, and T-shirt printing. With limited resources but unwavering determination, he slowly built his business from the ground up.

Recognizing the need to adapt and innovate, the business underwent a major transformation in 2005. Rebranded as Linkin’ Art, it embraced digital layout and printing technology—marking a turning point that fueled its growth. Through dedication to quality and customer satisfaction, Linkin’ Art steadily gained recognition and became one of the leading printing and advertising providers in Bislig City, supported by a growing team of five employees.

A significant milestone came in 2017 when Mr. Maraveles joined and successfully graduated from the Department of Trade and Industry’s Kapatid Mentor Me (KMME) Program. Equipped with new knowledge and skills, he was inspired to elevate his services, strengthen business operations, and continuously innovate. This transformation led to further expansion, doubling his workforce to ten employees.

However, like many businesses, Linkin’ Art faced major challenges during the pandemic. Sales declined, operations became difficult, manpower was reduced, and financial resources were strained. Determined to keep the business alive, Mr. Maraveles sought support from the Small Business Corporation (SBCorp) and in 2020, secured a Php200,000 loan. This lifeline helped sustain operations and allowed the business to recover.

Today, Linkin’ Art stands as a testament to perseverance, creativity, and faith. Guided by its core values of innovation, reliability, and quality, the business continues to provide excellent printing and signage services to clients. With a skilled team and a strong commitment to excellence, Linkin’ Art now achieves a monthly gross sale of no less than Php300,000.

Through every challenge and success, Mr. Maraveles remains grounded in faith, drawing inspiration from the verse:

"And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work." — 2 Corinthians 9:8

From humble beginnings to sustained success, the story of Linkin’ Art proves that with passion, resilience, and trust in God, even the smallest capital can grow into something extraordinary.

Consistency and Passion: The Story of Mavies Sweets

Mr. Guillermo and Mrs. Venus Buhian lived in Indonesia for some time because of work. While they were there, a friend taught them the basics of baking.

When they returned to the Philippines in 2003, Ms. Venus began baking cakes for her family and later shared them with friends during special occasions. Soon, people started ordering cakes from her. With an initial capital of Php 1,000, she began accepting orders from family and close friends.

In 2015, she officially registered her business, Mavies Sweets, and opened a physical store in John Bosco District, Mangagoy, Bislig City.

When the pandemic affected her business, she used the opportunity to renovate her store to make it nicer, more spacious, and cleaner. She also learned how to use social media and started accepting orders online.

She later joined and graduated from the Kapatid Mentor Me (KMME) Program, where she gained valuable knowledge on how to run her business effectively.

Eventually, she opened another branch in a different barangay in Bislig City. Today, she proudly employs six female and one male worker and earns an average of Php 200,000 per month.

She believes that consistency leads to success, saying, “Consistency wins. Because it's not what you do once in a while that matters, it's what you do every day.”

RJQ Grills and Eatery

Ms. Rothy Quimque’s journey is a story of determination, faith, passion and success. A graduate of Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, she is proof that when you follow your heart and work hard, dreams can truly come to life.

Out of respect for the persons who sent her to college, she took up Bachelor of Education even though her real passion had always been cooking. She always knew that teaching was not for her because her heart belonged in the kitchen.

After graduation, she worked for nine years in a Japanese restaurant in Cebu, where she gained knowledge and experience in food preparation, customer service, and restaurant operations. Her years of exposure in the food industry strengthened her love for cooking and fueled her dream of someday having her own business.

In 2016, she finally took the first step towards that dream. With only ₱3,000 as her starting capital, she opened a small sari-sari store in her hometown. Aside from selling goods, she began cooking simple meals that were warmly received by her customers. The positive feedback she received inspired her to set up few tables and chairs so people could dine comfortably. Soon, she added grilled favorites such as chicken, liver, and pork which attracted even more customers.

Two years later, in 2018, she ventured into the lechon manok business in Tina, San Miguel. She studied and observed other lechon manok entrepreneurs, learning from their best practices to improve her own business. Her curiosity, dedication and willingness to learn helped her business grow steadily.
In 2020, she joined the Kapatid Mentor Me (KMME) Program of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). The program opened her eyes to business strategies and strengthened her mindset as an entrepreneur. She learned that even when things get difficult or exhausting, giving up is never an option. She also discovered the importance of continuous learning, staying open-minded, and keeping a positive attitude.

To help her business expand, she availed a ₱20,000 loan from SBCorp as additional capital. Eventually, she opened branches in Marihatag, Tago, and Aras-asan. Although these branches did not last due to challenges, she treated the experience as a valuable lesson. Ms Rothy realized that expanding a business requires not just financial resources, but also emotional readiness, strong leadership, and effective employee training.

Through perseverance and passion, RJQ Grills and Eatery now offers lechon manok, lechon belly, and a variety of home-cooked viands. Today, her business earns around ₱10,000 per day—a remarkable achievement for someone who started with just a few thousand pesos and a big dream.

Her success also allowed her to invest in another venture: she purchased a piece of land in Victoria, Tago, where she built a boarding house with ten rooms, further expanding her income sources.

For Rothy, success did not come easy, but it came through faith, hard work, and love for what she does. Her message to fellow entrepreneurs is clear: “Even when things get hard and tiring, always stand strong. Keep learning, stay passionate, and trust that God will never leave you.”

DTI Surigao del Sur honors this simple woman with big dreams.
