“I Don't Have a Portfolio.”

“No clients yet? That doesn't mean you have nothing to show.”

A beginner can create sample work based on the type of client they want to serve. For example, if you want to offer social media design, create three sample posts for a fictional café or local business. Just be honest that they're sample projects—not previous client work.

Think of one type of business you'd like to help and create one sample specifically for them.

🎁 FREE First Client Skill Finder Checklist — find beginner-friendly skills you can actually turn into a service.
Not sure what service you can offer online because you feel like you’re “not good at anything yet”?
You don’t need to be an expert to start—you need to identify the skills you already have that could be useful to someone else. Maybe you’re comfortable writing simple posts, organizing information, creating basic Canva designs, doing research, or handling messages; these can be starting points for a beginner-friendly service.

🎁 FREE BONUS:
I created the First Client Skill Finder Checklist to help you identify your existing skills and connect them with possible services you could offer.

“I Don't Have a Skill Yet.”

“You might not need a new skill—you might need to look differently at the skills you already have.”

Many beginners think they need to become an expert before they can offer a service online. But skills from office work, school, hobbies, or everyday tasks can sometimes be turned into simple services. The better question is: “What problem can I already help someone solve?”

Take 5 minutes today and write down three things people often ask you to help with.

14/09/2026

“What If Nobody Needs My Service?”

“Before spending weeks building a service, find out if someone actually needs it.”

Beginners often create an offer based on what they want to sell instead of what people are already struggling with. Look at small businesses, Facebook groups, online communities, and people you already know and pay attention to the problems they repeatedly mention.

Write down one problem you've noticed a business owner complain about recently.

“I Don't Know What Service to Offer.”

“If you can do 10 different things, choosing your first service can actually become harder.”

You don't need to offer everything you're capable of doing. Start with one simple service that matches a skill you already have, solves a clear problem, and can be demonstrated with a sample. You can always change or expand your service later.

Choose your easiest useful skill and ask yourself: “Who could I help with this?”

“I'm Afraid to Message People.”

“Sometimes the hardest part of getting your first client isn't the work—it's pressing Send.”

Beginners often worry that contacting potential clients will make them look desperate or salesy. Instead of sending a long sales pitch, start with a short, genuine message about a specific problem you noticed and ask whether they'd be interested in seeing how you could help.

Write your first outreach message today—but you don't have to send it yet.

“I Don't Want to Be Rejected.”

“Your first ‘No’ doesn't automatically mean your service is bad.”

A potential client can say no because they don't need the service, aren't ready, already have someone helping them, or simply aren't the right fit. One rejection gives you very little information about whether your offer can work. Look for patterns instead of judging yourself from one response.

If you've been rejected before, write down what you learned from the experience instead of only thinking about the rejection.

“I Need More Training First.”

“Learning more can feel productive—even when it's keeping you from looking for your first client.”

There is always another course, tutorial, certificate, or skill you could learn. But if you already have enough ability to complete a simple task, you may learn faster by practicing on real problems and improving along the way.

Ask yourself: “What can I already do well enough to help someone today?”

07/09/2026

“I Don't Know Who to Contact.”

“You don't need a list of 1,000 leads to start looking for your first client.”

Start with five people or businesses that clearly match your service. Look at your existing network, local businesses, Facebook groups, and businesses whose pages show a problem you can genuinely help with. Five relevant prospects are more useful than a huge list of random names.

Make a list of five potential clients before the end of today.
