Pastors and church leaders, leadership is not just about teaching truth—it is about living it. If we desire to see people grow in prayer, faith, obedience, generosity, and commitment to Christ, we must first be willing to pursue those things ourselves. People are inspired not only by what we preach from the pulpit, but by what they see modeled in our daily lives.

The most effective leaders lead by example. Our credibility grows when our actions align with our message, and our influence deepens when people see genuine spiritual growth in us. Before asking others to take the next step, be willing to take it yourself. The path you walk will often become the path your people follow.

An Indian ascetic named Dulal Giri Ji Maharaj has gone viral for standing in the same place for up to 12 years as an act of devotion to the Hindu deity Shiva. His legs are severely swollen and blackened, his body broken from relentless self denial.

Millions admire his dedication. Some call it remarkable faith. But from a biblical perspective, this is heartbreaking. No amount of standing, suffering, or self punishment can earn favor with God. The Bible says all our righteous acts are like filthy rags. Salvation is not a reward for extreme penance.

The God of the Bible does not require you to destroy your body. He requires you to trust His Son. Jesus already did all the work on the cross. He cried out "It is finished." Salvation is a free gift received by faith, not by standing for years or raising an arm for decades.

This man's tragic devotion should wake us up. Billions are striving in vain to reach gods who cannot save. Only Jesus Christ died for sins and rose again. Share the gospel. Salvation is not by works. It is by grace through faith.

I saw this as we were walking around Ilocos Norte last week and honestly- this scaffolding wouldn’t win any beauty awards.

It’s made from rough materials, tied together, and looks somewhat chaotic.

Yet… it’s accomplishing its purpose.

Many church plants look exactly like this.

* The worship team is learning.
* The kids ministry is improvised.
* The systems aren’t polished.
* The website isn’t perfect.
* The discipleship pathway is still developing.

And… that’s okay.

Perfection is not the goal during construction.

Progress is.

Too many church planters compare their scaffolding to another church’s finished building.

Before blaming the culture, the community, or the circumstances, ask a harder question:

Have we been faithful to do the work God has called us to do?

Sometimes the lack of results is a ministry problem.
Sometimes it's a timing problem.
Sometimes it's a soil problem.

But it's always worth examining whether we've planted, watered, invited, discipled, trained, and prayed before we complain about the harvest.

Most leaders get it backwards.

When things go well? They take the credit.
When things fall apart? They disappear.

That’s not leadership. That’s just management with a title.

Real leaders do the opposite.

Success arrives → step back. Let your people shine. Share the win. Celebrate the team.

Trouble arrives → step up. Own it. Protect your people. Lead from the front.

Jesus modeled this perfectly. He washed feet. He went to the cross. He didn’t hand off the hard stuff.

Two moments. Every leader faces them.
The question is — which kind of leader will you be?

The strongest biblical argument against Calvinism is usually not an analogy but the tension between God’s expressed desire and limited election:

God “wants all people to be saved” (1 Timothy 2:4).

God is “not wanting anyone to perish” (2 Peter 3:9).

Jesus wept over Jerusalem because they “were not willing” (Matthew 23:37).

People are repeatedly called to choose, repent, believe, and respond.
