Matthew 25:1-13

At that time, Jesus told his disciples this parable: “The kingdom of heaven will be like this: ten virgins went out to meet the bridegroom. Each carried a lamp. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. The foolish ones took their lamps but brought no extra oil, while the wise took oil in jars along with their lamps. The bridegroom was delayed, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.

At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here comes the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’ Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’ The wise replied, ‘No, there may not be enough for both us and you. Go instead to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’

While they were away buying oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet, and the door was shut. Later, the other virgins came and said, ‘Lord, Lord, open the door for us!’ But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I do not know you.’

Therefore, keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.”

Matthew 24:42-51

At that time, Jesus said to his disciples, “Therefore, keep watch, for you do not know on what day your Lord will come. Understand this: if the head of the household had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and not let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.
The faithful and wise servant is the one whom his master puts in charge of his household to give them food at the proper time. Blessed is that servant whom his master finds doing so when he returns! Truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions. But if that servant is wicked and says to himself, ‘My master is staying away a long time,’ and then begins to beat his fellow servants and eat and drink with drunkards, the master of that servant will come on a day he does not expect and at an hour he does not know. He will punish him severely and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

At that time, Jesus said, “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, beautiful on the outside but inside full of decay and the bones of the dead. In the same way, you appear righteous to people, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You build tombs for the prophets and decorate the graves of the righteous, and you say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our ancestors, we would not have taken part in shedding the blood of the prophets.’ By saying this, you testify that you are the descendants of those who murdered the prophets! Go ahead then—finish what your ancestors started!”

At that time, Jesus said, “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You give a tenth of your herbs—mint, dill, and cumin—but you neglect the more important matters of the Law: justice, mercy, and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter without neglecting the former. Blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel!
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside will also be clean.”

John 1:45-51

At that time, Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. He is the one whom Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also spoke.” Nathanael asked, “Can anything good come from Nazareth?” Philip replied, “Come and see.”
When Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him, He said, “Here is a true Israelite, in whom there is no deceit.” Nathanael asked Him, “How do You know me?” Jesus answered, “Before Philip called you, I saw you under the fig tree.” Nathanael declared, “Rabbi, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!”
Jesus answered, “Do you believe because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than these.” Then He added, “Truly I tell you, you will see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man.”
