Have you ever wondered mga ka-crafty kung saan nga ba nagmula at kailan nagsimula ang pagdiriwang ng teacher’s day?

According to my research,

Taong 1962 ng magsimulang ipagdiwang sa India ang Teachers Day tuwing Sept 5. Ito ang araw ng kapanganakan ni Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the first Vice President and the Second President of India. Teacher’s day is celebrated on his birth anniversary.

Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was a respected teacher before he got into politics. Ayon sa mga kwento pagkatapos nyang maging presidente ng India, hiniling ng mga dating estudyante nya at mga kaibigan na ipagdiwang ang kanyang kaarawan. Ngunit hiniling nya na imbis na ipagdiwang ang kanyan kaarawan ay gawin na lamang itong araw para sa mga g**o.

Magmula noon ay ipinagdiwang na ang kanyang kaarawan bilang Teachers Day sa India.

Taong 1994 naman ng ideklara ng UNESCO ang October 5 bilang World Teachers Day, celebrating the great step made for teachers on October 5, 1966.
