Dropping by another looted site in Brgy Bateria, abutting a mangrove area, wher we were directed by locals to the property farmed by Esmeraldo Ynot, now 58 years old, who plowed this field and found burials and some gold jewelry nearly 40 years ago. The stoneware sherds we found strewn on the site were clearly datable to the Song Dynasty, ca. 1100-1200. Esmer also reported finding polished stone tools that looked like axes to him. Sadly he gave the bunch away to someone from the city who came looking for amulets.

Another precolonial burial site? Contiguous to the Malokbolok site beside the Daanbantayan Public Cemetery yesterday, is Lower Danawan, where the same phenomena of burials washed out to sea after a violent storm also resulted in locals collecting and selling gold studded teeth, shell bracelets and export ceramics. We interviewed their living descendants.

Exploring a possible late precolonial site beside the old Cemetery of Daanbantayan where, according to our informant, Vicente 'Titing' Arriesgado, a church lay minister, burials with gold studded teeth and lots of 'shiny' ceramics and gold jewelry were washed to sea around 1992. And a looting frenzy, of course, ensued until the local govt put a stop to it or else even the old Cemetery would be looted.
