They truly earned it, they put in the hard work and long hours of studying to get to where they're at. They should be very proud of their accomplishments.

It takes a lot of perseverance and grit to make the Dean's List. You went above and beyond to get your grades up, and to be on the Dean's List you need to be committed to your work and studies. You never gave up, and you always worked your hardest. Your persistence and hard work paid off in this semester's success, and you should be proud of the accomplishments you've made.

To all those students who made the Dean's List, I hope you take pride in what you've accomplished and continue to work just as hard as you have. These are achievements that you should be honored for. It shows that you're willing to put in the work needed to succeed. It shows that you're committed to your work and your grades. 𝗖𝗘𝗔𝗣 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲: 𝗡𝗲𝘄𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗛𝗼𝗽𝗲

The Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP) recently hosted its 2026 National Convention at the Waterfront Hotel, Cebu City, from September 22 to 25, 2026, under the theme '𝙉𝙚𝙬𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝘾𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙡𝙞𝙘 𝙀𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣: 𝘾𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝙃𝙤𝙥𝙚' (A Constellation of Hope: SUGBU 2026). The four-day event gathered Catholic education leaders, administrators, and educators from across the Philippines for plenary sessions, workshops, and fellowship, sharing their hopes for the renewal of Catholic education in the country.

The 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐚𝐧 𝐉𝐨𝐬𝐞-𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐨𝐬 (USJ-R), through the leadership of its President 𝐑𝐞𝐯. 𝐅𝐫. 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐨 𝐒. 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐳 𝐉𝐫., 𝐎𝐀𝐑, who also leads the Region VII Trustee committee of CEAP, served as the host institution for the event. Fr. Eduardo also led the local Steering Committee, which was formed from partner Catholic schools and institutions that will support the event in Cebu and Bohol, together with the support of the CEAP National Secretariat in planning and venue facilitation.

Meanwhile, a team of volunteers from USJ-R and partner institutions signed up for different committees such as registration, guest relations, documentation, media and publicity, food, and security to provide special support during the four-day convention to ensure that the participants experienced a memorable hospitality event. The 𝐓𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐦 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐇𝐨𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 (THMD) took up a specific role in this effort, as its volunteers were assigned to the guest relations and food committees.

La Mesa ni San Jose: A Meal Shared with Love

The three organizations of the Tourism and Hospitality Management Department—the Hospitality Management Society (HMS), Le Cercle Culinaire (LCC), and Tourism Circle Organization (TCO)—in collaboration with CRCESI, came together for La Mesa ni San Jose last September 18, 2026.

Our dedicated volunteers generously gave their time and effort to serve warm meals, share smiles, and create meaningful moments with the community. More than just a meal, the outreach was a reminder that true hospitality is rooted in kindness, compassion, and service.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who volunteered and helped make this meaningful initiative possible. Together, we serve with heart.

𝑺𝑬𝑹𝑽𝑰𝑵𝑮 𝑾𝑰𝑻𝑯 𝑯𝑬𝑨𝑹𝑻 - 𝑨𝑵𝑫 𝑵𝑶𝑾, 𝑺𝑨𝑽𝑰𝑵𝑮 𝑳𝑰𝑽𝑬𝑺 𝑻𝑶𝑶!

From September 12-13, 2026, Hospitality Management students took their Basic Life Support training under the course Sanitation - Risk Management as Applied to Safety, Security and Sanitation, managed by Chef Richard Hao, Chef Pepin Ordona, and Chef Martin Gonzales.

The first day was held in RM 202-203 (collapsible rooms), while the second day was held in the NQ Hall, with Basic Life Support training conducted by Mr. Jonathan Philip Obregon of Basic Lifesaving Solutions Training Center. Through lectures and hands-on practice in CPR, first aid, and emergency response, the students learned how to save lives with confidence and composure.

This BLS training is essential to every hospitality student, not just in the academe but also in the industry setting. Equipping them with skills and confidence to respond quickly in an emergency is vital to keep the people they serve safe.

The Josenians took home not just one but THREE titles at MAFBEX Cebu 2026 the 𝘊𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘋𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, MAFBEX 𝘗𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘢 𝘓𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘊𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘦𝘳𝘺, and the MAFBEX 𝘛𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘎𝘶𝘪𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯:: Food Edition proving to the entire competition floor what true dedication, skill, and teamwork look like.

It's a great idea to celebrate three outstanding THMD professors on their special day such a lovely way of paying tribute to the remarkable women who inspire us, both within and outside the classroom. Whether it's their commitment to teaching or the real care they show for each student, these women genuinely go the extra mile.

We really appreciate your steadfast dedication, the passion you show in your work, and the wisdom you so kindly pass on to us each day. The advice you give not only influences our academic progress but also affects the people we become. It is in moments such as these that we realize how fortunate we are to have mentors who inspire us to improve, lesson by lesson.

𝙃𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙮 𝙊𝙨𝙢𝙚ñ𝙖 𝘿𝙖𝙮, 𝘾𝙚𝙗𝙪!

On September 9 each year, we take the time to pay tribute to the life and legacy of 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐨 𝐎𝐬𝐦𝐞ñ𝐚 𝐒𝐫. who was one of the most influential Filipino statesmen to hail from our province. He was born and brought up in Cebu and, through a steadfast commitment to public service, climbed the ranks to become the fourth President of the Philippines.

His life serves as a strong example that greatness can arise from any place, including the quiet streets of our cherished Cebu. Because of his leadership, he actively promoted education, nation-building, and the well-being of ordinary Filipinos, and the impact he had continues to be felt today.

As Cebuanos, we are proud not only of his accomplishments but also of the values he stood for resilience, service, and love of country. Today let us celebrate our history, honor our roots, and remember the leaders who laid the foundation for the Philippines as it is today.
