Thank you IHE Delft Institute for Water Education! Hoping for a smooth sailing collaboration. 🌊

IHE Delft hosted a delegation from the University of San Carlos, Water Resources Center (USCWRC), Philippines, and Deltares on 7 May 2024.

IHE Delft Business Director, Johan van Dijk welcomed Virgilio Brigido G. Espeleta, Board of Trustees USCWRC, and Hans van Duijne, coordinator of Deltares’ projects in the . Their visit provided a platform to explore further opportunities for collaboration. Highlighting the depth of our partnership, IHE Delft has already supported four diploma students, five MSc students, and two PhD candidates currently employed at USCWRC. Notably, one of these individuals served as the former USCWRC Director until her retirement, underscoring the enduring nature of our collaboration.

During the discussions, several short-term activities were discussed, including:
• The formal renewal of the cooperation agreement to strategically position USCWRC for activities aligned with the socio-economic needs of Metro Cebu’s rapidly expanding 4 million population
• Collaboration in practice-oriented research for NWO-WOTRO programmes alongside selected other Dutch universities
• Invitation to the Business Director to contribute to preparing the new USCWRC roadmap and business plan.

This draws upon IHE Delft’s experience in assisting with of the Philippine National Economic Development Agency and the country’s National Department of Water Resources.

Workshops and a Water Forum scheduled to take place in the Philippines from 10-12 July 2024 will provide further avenues for fruitful engagement and collaboration.

Congratulations to the new Board of Trustees!

Following the success of Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry's (CCCI) 1st General Membership Meeting held on February 23, a Joint Board of Trustees Meeting was convened on March 1 (Friday) to commence the 1st day of Mr. Jay Y. Yuvallos as the chamber’s new President.

Jay Y. Yuvallos is a distinguished figure in the realm of commerce and industry, known for his extensive contributions and leadership roles. Holding the title as the President of Interior Basics Export Corporation since 1994 and YZ Global Resources, Inc. since 2007, he has demonstrated unwavering commitment and expertise in business management and supporting the furniture manufacturing industry in Cebu. Additionally, his tenure as a Board Director at Sun Energy Developers Asia, Inc. and as the Philippine Representative for the EAST ASIA Business Council showcases his international engagement and strategic acumen.

Alongside Yuvallos, CCCI also welcomed its 2024 Board of Trustees.

For the industry sector, the 2024 trustees include Carlo Cordaro, President and CEO of Cebu Fil Veneer Corporation; Charles Kenneth Co, Assistant to the President of Cebu Steel Corporation and CCCI Immediate Past President; Stanley Uang, Vice-President for Business Development of International Pharmaceuticals Inc (IPI) Cebu; Benedict Que, President of Primehomes Development Corporation; and Pedro Delantar, Jr., CEO of Nature’s Legacy Eximport, Inc.

The debut of Manoling 5 takes place in Republic Drydock in Danao City, Cebu on 13 December 2023, promising a celebration of craftsmanship, innovation, and maritime tradition.

The inaugural blessing ceremony marks a pivotal moment in E.B. Aznar Shipping’s legacy, signifying the company’s continued commitment to strengthen and maintain their existing ports of call and to continuously provide reliable and safe service for their customers.

Manoling 5 is realized through the efforts and leadership of current President, Kyle Alexander Aznar, who steadfastly undertook the position after his late father, Atty. Alexander Aznar.

This ceremony marks a major milestone in E.B. Aznar Shipping history as Manoling 5 is the first to debut under the wing of President Kyle Alexander Aznar and the company’s first set of Board Members.
