Today we celebrate the Memorial of St. Joseph the Worker. ​Today's feast, celebrated annually on May 1, was instituted by Pope Pius XII in 1955 to honor the dignity of labor and to provide a Christian perspective on work. This date coincides with International Workers' Day, offering a faith-based alternative to secular labor celebrations. The feast emphasizes St. Joseph's role as a humble laborer and patron of workers, highlighting the sanctity of human labor and its importance in God's plan. ​

In recent years, Pope Francis has continued to underscore the significance of this feast. In 2020, he dedicated a Mass to all workers, praying that everyone might have access to dignified employment and just wages. Additionally, in 2021, the Vatican introduced seven new invocations to the Litany of St. Joseph, further honoring his example and intercession. ​

The Feast of St. Joseph the Worker serves as a reminder of the value of work and the importance of recognizing the contributions of all laborers in building a just and compassionate society.
