This book is a must read. I know the name John Gokongwei, Jr. as one of the well known entrepreneur in the Philippines. But this book give me a chance to see this man in a different light.

Here are some notes I learned from him based on the perspective of his son:

1. He honour his family, that is, was and always be his top priority. Even though he was really a busy man, he made sure that everyday he will be there for dinner. He made me realize again the important of family time. (Nay, uuwi na po ako 😂)

2. Resilience. Bouncing back from our lowest moments. Bes, this line parang patama. He even has gotten through the thoughest time, yet he never gives up. Hindi na ako magrereklamo. Magtratrabaho na uli ako.

3. If you don’t work, you don’t eat.
Again, magtratrabaho na ako.

4. Lead by example, he never asks anyone to do anything he wouldn’t do himself. And be a team player.

5. Stay humble. He never really think he was the best. He even made sure to his son to hire people who are smarter than them and better than them.

6. He really made sure the value of diversification. From manufacturing, textile, airline, banks, real estate and more!

7. He value their employees. When typhoon yolanda happen in Tacloban, they made sure to take care of their people. When I read this story, I immediately think to apply to them.

8. Give back. Maybe that was one of the reason why he was not the number one richest man in the Philippines. He was included in TOP 10, yes, but he was never the TOP 1. He was so generous on giving back to people, from his own people to different foundation. They even have partnership with UNICEF. So if we will have flight with Cebu Pacific, let’s donate.

9. Don’t stop innovating. This is one of the reason why he leave legacy for his family even for the next century.

10. He dream big. We are all dreamers, but the difference is this man takes action to achieve his dream. May we be inspired to take action about our dreams.

There is so much more into this book but for now this is what I can share. Have a good day ahead! 😊
