One thing I realized while running this cake business is how funny life can be sometimes.
Back then, I used to pray for busy days. I would ask for more orders, more customers, and more opportunities to grow my business. And when those busy days finally came, I found myself overwhelmed, exhausted, sleep-deprived, and mentally drained, but fulfilled at the same time.
There was even a time when I had to skip classes because of cake orders and deliveries. As a student, balancing school, work, and a growing business wasn’t easy at all.
There were days when I would get off my night shift at 7 a.m., sleep for only two hours, then wake up early again just to start decorating cakes before going to school. And if I had three or more orders in one day, I could already feel the exhaustion catching up to me, especially on the last few cakes I worked on.
Sometimes I felt guilty because I knew my energy wasn’t the same anymore. The effort and precision I gave to my first cake didn’t always feel equal to the last one because my body was already tired. Even then, I still pushed myself to do my best every single time.
What kept me going were the customers.
Every message, every feedback, every appreciation reminded me that my effort was never wasted. Even during the times I felt physically and mentally exhausted, people still appreciated the work, the details, and the love I put into every order.
Looking back now, But I’m grateful I experienced that phase of my life because it shaped me into who I am today.
Now that I’ve already graduated, things feel different. Most of the time, I’m just at home working on orders, and honestly, seeing how busy this month of May has been for my business makes me feel so grateful. It feels surreal because I remember asking for days like these before.
It has been more than a year since I started this cake business again, and I’m genuinely happy with the growth I’ve been seeing — not just in the business, but also in myself.
To every small business owner out there: keep going. People will eventually recognize your work, appreciate your effort, and remember the passion behind what you create.
