The Philippines is advancing digital connectivity with a new satellite-based communication system.

PHILIPPINES FIRST IN SOUTHEAST ASIA TO ROLL OUT SATELLITE-TO-PHONE TECHNOLOGY

The Philippines launched satellite-to-phone connectivity through a partnership involving the Department of Information and Communications Technology, Globe Telecom, and Starlink, making it the first in Southeast Asia to introduce the technology.

The system allows standard LTE phones to send messages, make calls, and access data even without ground-based cell towers, particularly in remote and disaster-prone areas. Powered by low Earth orbit satellites acting as cell towers in space, the technology works using existing mobile networks without requiring new devices.

On Monday night, May 25, 2026, the famous near-perfect cone of the Mayon Volcano was actively erupting, spewing glowing lava and ash. Suddenly, a massive, bright green fireball meteor tore through the sky, appearing to plunge directly behind the volcano's peak.
