A foreign man recently shared his story with Helga, and I thought it was worth sharing from a man’s point of view.
He said:
“I didn’t want a Filipina who would depend on me. I wanted a woman who understood hard work, sacrifice, responsibility, and the value of money.”
The woman he met had been through a lot. When she was 18, her father became seriously ill, so she left the Philippines to work overseas and help support her family.
She never had the chance to finish college, but instead of wasting what she earned, she helped build a house for her parents, bought land, saved money, and prepared for her future.
He met her when she was around 30.
He told Helga he was not looking for a beauty queen or the woman with the biggest degree.
He wanted someone who was hardworking, loyal, kind, responsible, and appreciative.
What I respected most was this:
He did not want to simply send her money every month.
He wanted to help her build independence.
So they started small.
First, a bakery.
Then later, a restaurant, rice land, banana land, and coconut land.
He made sure everything was handled properly and legally.
And he said something important:
“I may have provided some opportunities, but she did the work.”
Today, she can help support herself and their baby without depending on him every month.
That is the part I think many people miss.
A good relationship is not just about saying “I love you.”
Watch how someone handles money.
Watch how they handle responsibility.
Watch how they behave when life gets difficult.
Watch their actions, not only their words.
Life lesson: The right partner should not simply help you spend your life.
They should help you build it.
