Bakit hindi ginagamit na pang-Upgrade ang Roosters na Heritage Chickens tulad ng RIR at BA?

1. Mabalahibo - lahat ng protina na kinakain ng manok ay napupunta sa balahibo sa unang yugto ng kanilang paglaki, hindi sa karne.
2. Sakitin - Dahil hindi native ang RIR at BA sa Pilipinas, asahan na mas sipunin ito at mas mahina ang sisiw.
3. Mabuto o Tusok ang dibdib - malalaki ang buto ng RIR at BA. Madalas patusok ang dibdib at hindi makarne.
4. Matabang ang Karne - Hindi masyadong malasa at magaspang ang karne ng RIR at BA kumpara sa Oriental Chicken Breeds tulad ng Jolo o Shamo.

Ganito dapat ang itsura ng mga Native na manok sa bakuran na mabilis lumaki at pangkatay.
1. Medyo pahaba ang leeg
2. Rose-comb o hindi masyadong mataas ang palong
3. Bilugan ang katawan
4. Medium lang ang katawan, hindi maliit, hindi matangkad
5. Itim o Brown ang kulay

Bakit?
Ito ay sa kadahilanan na mas mabilis itong lumaki, mas mabigat, mas malakas mangitlog at adapted sa klima ng bansa.

Paano ito magagawa o makakapaglahi ng ganitong native na manok?

1. I-cross ang Larger Genetic Group na Rooster tulad ng Paraoakan, Basilan, Shamo, Zampen, Jolo sa Small Genetic Group na Hens tulad ng Darag, Manok Tagalog, Banaba, Camarines at Manok Bisaya. (Improved Pure Native Chicken)

2. I-down grade ang mga Heritage Breed Hens tulad ng Rhode Island Red, Black Astrolorp, BPR. I-cross ito sa Roosters na malalaking lahi na Native tulad ng Paraoakan, Basilan, Zampen at Jolo upang mas maging malakas, matibay sa sakit, mabilis lumaki at malakas mangitlog. (Upgraded Native Chicken)

Mas mababa ang presyo nito sa mga Standard Breed o Purelines na Native Chickens tulad ng Darag, Banaba at Zampen ngunit makakaasa ka ng mas QUALITY na Pangkatay, mabilis lumaki na Cockerels at malakas mangitlog na inahin.

The food we eat and how it is produced can improve our health, increase biodiversity and reduce carbon emissions. However, the food industry today and vested interests would have us thread an increasingly well-worn path to ill health, environmental damage, increased carbon emissions and pollution of our planet and bodies.

These are some of the thoughts of Dr Sean Ownes, a member of Irish Doctors for the Environment and the chair of “The Climate and Health Alliance” who in 2023 launched a new and ground-breaking report examining in detail the connection between our food health and the health of our planet, he was kind enough to provide his thoughts below:

There is currently a syndemic of unhealthy poor diets and related chronic disease paired with climate change and critical biodiversity loss. The problems with the Irish healthcare system can be summed up in one word: capacity. The problems with Ireland’s food system might also be summed up in one word: sustainability.

This report is unique it is the first time that multiple healthcare institutions, such as UCD, RCSI, ICGP, RCPI, the Irish Heart Foundation and many more have all arrived at a consensus that the current Irish diet is causing great harm to people and planet, while also recognising planetary boundaries and the need to live within them.

Have our diets improved in the last three years?

The greatest challenge will be making forward progress free from the undue influence of vested interests and powerful lobby groups. We need to see this transition as a generational opportunity for not only health and a viable healthcare system, but also for the Irish economy and for rural Ireland now and in the future. Healthy and sustainable diets don’t need to be invented; we only need the policies to make choosing them the best option.
