Ever assumed rebreather diving is only for hardcore tech divers? So did most people — and it's not really true.

We just put out a video (in collaboration with The Dive Insider) breaking down how CCR actually works, electronic vs mechanical units, why the new chest-mounted rebreathers have taken off, and why recreational divers — not just deep tech divers — get real benefit from diving closed circuit: no bubbles to spook the marine life, warm humid gas instead of cold dry tank air, and dives that go a lot longer than open circuit ever will.

It's also a bit of a heads up: from the new year, we're bringing CCR diving to The Dive Hub — including unit rental on chest-mounted eCCR units, so you can try it without owning a thing.

Nora's been with Reef Buddy since 2018 — Carriacou volunteer, then staff, now she runs the place. After two birthdays lost to the aftermath of a hurricane, we thought this one was owed.

So we flew her halfway around the world to dive with thresher sharks on Malapascua. 5am alarm, thirty metres, dark and gloomy. Worth it!

🚨 I said August launch. Wrong!

Hydraulic steering failed final assembly — and on a twin‑outboard catamaran, you don’t bodge that. It gets replaced properly, or she doesn’t move.

🎯 New target: 19 September. Every approval stacks behind that date — MARINA in Cebu before Coast Guard here. No shortcuts, no phone calls.

The diving we’ve sold? Still happening. Just waiting to run it from our own deck.

Whether we're in the corner for team blue or team red we develop as divers with certain core understandings of what the rules are that we were taught through. What's not often explained is why we were taught to those rules? We're also not necessarily aware that other people dive to a different set of rules or standards too.

In this video we look at depth limits on air on a single tank, and how the people who first created organised scuba training still have a different rule book, and different training standards to those put forward by agencies like PADI, SSI, NAUI and SDI.
