Back in 2014, I was enjoying a 6-digit salary plus perks as an office manager/recruiter. Little did I know that the company I was working for would soon succumb to the recession. Then, the unthinkable happened. In 2016, I got laid off, then si husband na lay off din. Trying to make ends meet, I went back to online selling and sold my family’s preloved clothes and shoes. And since I’ve done hosting during college, I also accepted gigs to bring in cash. At the same time, I sold frozen products, Bangkok dresses, and my own brand of sandals. You see, I didn't mind doing that because I have always loved selling ever since I was a young kid. Like a little entrepreneur, I would sell durian candies, and ice buko, and run a payphone in grade school. I would offer my services too, like doing the reports and projects of my classmates in exchange for a fee.
𝗜 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝗲𝗻𝗷𝗼𝘆 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴. But when I came back to online selling after being laid off, It was just not enough. Imagine I am used to earning 6 digits already, so, I had to look for other ways to feed my family. One day, a high school friend ordered a sandal and a Bangkok blouse from me. As we caught up with each other, she mentioned that she was currently working for a client and told me about a certain freelancing platform. I immediately got interested. When I got home, I did my research and created my profile, summary, and personal statement on the platform. In 24 hours or less, my profile got approved. Excited to get started, I sent out proposals right away. Lo and behold, I got an offer from one client without having to go to an interview. He immediately offered me the role at my stipulated rate. Gladly, he is still my client until now. I did get my first client quickly, but transitioning to a work-from-home setup was far from easy. Back then, I had 2 kids, did tandem breastfeeding, and was pregnant at that time. 𝑩𝒖𝒕 𝑰 𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒅. 𝑰 𝒕𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒆 𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒄𝒆𝒇𝒖𝒍 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒎𝒂𝒅𝒆 𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒐𝒏𝒍𝒚 𝒂𝒗𝒂𝒊𝒍𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆. With a 3-year-old laptop, a small plastic chair, and a table, I started my freelancing career.

As I have found financial freedom, work-life harmony, and workload flexibility in the world of online freelancing, I also endeavor to help other mothers become virtual boss moms and enjoy the same benefits. After all, nobody understands a mother more than somebody who has been there.
