While Val is building his dreams in Canada, I’m here in the Philippines continuing to build mine while supporting the kids.

Miles apart, but still working toward the same vision . . . for ourselves, our family, and the life we’re creating together.

Maybe the goal of LDR isn’t just to survive the distance until you’re together again.

It’s learning how to love each other differently . . . to communicate better, trust deeper, become more independent without becoming disconnected, and keep building your own life while still building OUR life.

Because a strong couple isn’t two people who can’t function without each other.

It’s two whole people who keep growing individually . . . and still keep choosing each other. ❤️

And perhaps that’s the beauty of this season for us:

Different time zones. Different countries. But when you share the same intention, the same vision, and the same dreams for your family, no distance can truly separate you.

When we were younger, we had our own checklists for our "ideal husband or wife."

Personally, I thought of someone who could sing like Regine Velasquez or Lea Salonga. 🎤😂 (alam na ang generation)

Someone who could cook really well.

And bonus points if she’d bring me breakfast in bed. 🍳☕😂

Then I met Cathy.

Let's just say God had a different checklist. 😂❤️

Over the years, I realized I wasn't looking for someone who could simply fulfill a list.

I needed someone I could build a life with.

Someone who would dream with me, challenge me, grow with me, raise a family with me, and bring strengths different from mine.

Naturally, I became the cook because I'm really good at it having learned from my nanay.😂

And Cathy became the planner, organizer, finance person, and systems person in our home.

That's partnership.

It's not:

“Sino mas maraming ginagawa?”

“Sino mas malaki ang income?”

There will be seasons when one carries more in one area and the other carries more somewhere else.

Marriage isn't always 50/50.

It's two people 100% committed to US.

Sometimes we spend so much time looking for our "ideal partner"

Only to discover that what we really needed was our perfect match.

Not someone exactly like us.

But someone whose strengths complement ours, whose differences help us grow, and who chooses to build the same life with us.

So maybe don't marry your checklist.

Marry someone you can grow, build, laugh, and do life with. ❤️

As for the singing and breakfast in bed?

Well . . . anything is possible😂

The other day, our dog Sushi unexpectedly gave birth to five puppies.

This was actually one of Val’s projects, but since he’s still away and Sushi gave birth earlier than expected, the kids and I were completely caught by surprise. I think Sushi was too. 🥺

Sadly, only one puppy survived.

For the next two days, the kids, especially my daughter, did everything they could. She patiently fed the tiny pup through a syringe every 3–4 hours, watched over it, and hoped it would make it.

Yesterday, we brought Sushi and the puppy to the vet. When we got home, they fed the little one again . . . but shortly after, it stopped moving.

We lost the last puppy. 💔

The kids were heartbroken. They cried and eventually buried the little pup in our garden.

As a mom, watching them hurt was painful. But somewhere in that sadness, I also found something to be grateful for.

We are raising children who care.

Children whose hearts can still break over a tiny animal.

Children who will lose sleep to care for something helpless.

Children who aren't afraid to love, nurture, cry, and feel.

In a world that can sometimes teach our children to become tough and indifferent, I pray they never lose that softness and compassion.

Because raising strong children doesn't mean raising children who don't cry.

It means raising children with hearts strong enough to care deeply.

And that kind of heart?

It is nurtured at home. ❤️

The past two days were sad, but they also gave me a little reassurance:

Our kids will be okay.

Not because life won't break their hearts sometimes . . .

but because they're growing up knowing how to love.

“Gising ka?”

“Patulog na ako.” 😂

Welcome to LDR with different time zones.

One thing we've learned:

Don't measure love by availability.

Instead:

⏰ Find your overlap time.
📱 Leave messages they can wake up to.
❤️ Respect each other's work, sleep and responsibilities.

You don't need to talk all day to stay connected.

You need a rhythm that says: “Even when we're busy, you still matter to me.”

So kahit 5-10 minutes lang na ganito, to reconnect, to check-in with each other, it’s getting us through weeks of not being together physically.

Looking forward to our next chitchat❤️

𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐈𝐬 𝐑𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧 𝐓𝐨𝐨. ❤️

We all want to raise children who are kind, respectful, humble, and servant-hearted.

And yes, we need to teach them these values. But some of their greatest lessons won’t come from what we say . . . they’ll come from what they see at home.

Especially with what we’re seeing among our youth today, we’re reminded that it really starts at 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞.

Every time we choose patience over frustration, forgiveness over pride, respect over criticism, and service over selfishness, we’re showing our children what love looks like.

They are watching how we love, disagree, forgive, serve, and choose each other.

If we want to build a 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬, let’s start by building 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐇𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬. 🇵🇭❤️

Strong marriages.
Connected parents.
Emotionally safe children.
Values lived . . . not just taught.

Because the future we want to see in our children begins with the home they experience today.

Just came from a trip in China that was composed of mostly couples. It was more like a couples retreat really.

And while Val and I weren’t together in this trip, I took this time to actually observe how couple dynamics work while traveling.

They say traveling brings out the best . . . or the worst in each other, how you respond to situations like finding the dinner venue, how to ride the MRT, how to order food especially if the person taking your oder doesn’t know how to speak in English lol.

Probably my biggest realization from the trip: you don’t really know how strong your relationship is when everything is convenient. You discover it when things don’t go as planned. 😅

Marriage is not just about enjoying beautiful destinations together.

It’s about how you treat each other when you’re lost, tired, hungry, confused, or stressed.

Because sometimes, the best measure of a strong relationship isn’t how much you love each other when life is easy

But how well you stay on the same team when life gets inconvenient. ❤️

Travel doesn’t just reveal places. It reveals partnerships as well.😊

While Val was enjoying his churros in Canada, I was was across the world in China enjoying my strawberry twirl ice cream.

And that’s okay.

Being a couple doesn’t mean you always have to do things together, always be together.

When you are whole and complete as a person, you are happy, alone.

Because being alone doesn’t mean you have to be lonely.

Being alone is an opportunity to learn more about yourself.

So that when you see each other again, you can bring something beautiful to share.

Your insights.
Your experiences.
Your joys.
Your sadness.

And then you will create a bond as a couple stronger than ever❤️

So enjoy these moments.

And look forward to your next rendezvous.

So this is how love works for us these days.

Val in the other side of the world, exercising, while I’m at the airport, waiting for my own trip out of the country.

Friends were asking, “Is this the first time you guys have travelled separately?” “Don’t you miss each other?”

“No” and “Yes”, our answers respectively.

No, this is not the first time that we are traveling on our own.

Yes, of course we miss each other.

And we find a way to make it work.

For us, growing individually and experiencing different things as a person is a must.

And the freedom to do your own thing is such a beautiful thing that we give to each other

Allowing us to bring more magic and flavor to the relationship if we do so.

Being a mom of 4, with kids who are in different stages in their lives, 1 adulting, 2 teenagers, and 1 still in grade school, it takes a lot to muster all wisdom, strength and courage on how to become a good parent.

Not perfect.

No, I don’t want to strive to be one.

Just wanting to be there when they need me and being able to offer the guidance while you still can.

With the eldest, he has different needs, and while you want to “control”, clearly you can’t and most of the time you can only remind and pray a lot that he will go to the path he can learn and grow as a person.

Not rescuing or shielding them of their own challenges and maybe pain, though you wish you could, like what all parents want.

But oh that will deprive them of the chance of exploring, finding their own way, making mistakes, and be proud of themselves that they were able to actually figure it out.

The joy of parenthood, indeed!

I’m sure all parents can relate to this🙏

Grateful that I’m learning and evolving as a parent as well❤️

LDR is hard.

But distance doesn't have to create disconnection. ❤️

One thing we’ve learned about LDR: communication becomes even more important when you can’t physically be together.

Hindi madali. Different time zones. Busy schedules. Minsan pag gising mo, tulog na siya. 😅 But it’s very much possible when both people stay intentional.

1. Don’t wait for the “perfect time.”
Kahit short call, quick message, or “How was your day?” Connection is built in small moments.

2. Communicate beyond updates.
Hindi lang, “Kumain ka na?” 😂
Share what you’re feeling, what you’re learning, what you’re struggling with, and what you’re excited about.

3. Create your own rhythm.
Find a communication routine that works for both of you. Consistency creates security even when you’re miles apart.

Because in LDR, you may not always share the same space—but you can still share the same life.

Distance is challenging, yes.

But when two people keep choosing connection, love can still grow across any distance. ❤️
