Aiming to better understand current market conditions, identify key challenges affecting supply and pricing, and gather inputs for possible interventions that will support both businesses and consumers, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Oriental Mindoro conducted a Consultative Meeting (Focus Group Discussion) on the Price and Supply Situation in the province on May 6, 2026, 2:00 PM via Zoom.
The activity was attended by 97 participants, mostly composed of business establishments such as distributors, dealers, wholesalers, supermarkets, grocery stores, and retailers of basic necessities and prime commodities. DTI and Negosyo Center Business Counsellors from across the province also actively participated.
The meeting was presided by Provincial Director Arnel E. Hutalla, CESO V, who guided the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) in examining the current price and supply situation in Oriental Mindoro, with particular attention to the effects of the fuel price hike on business operations, supply chains, and pricing.
The discussion focused on participants’ observations of current market conditions, including changes in the prices of basic necessities and prime commodities, products most affected, and experiences on delivery delays, reduced supply, or allocation issues. It also explored how these changes are linked to increased fuel and transport costs.
Further, the FGD examined how these market shifts are affecting business operations and consumers, particularly the factors influencing pricing decisions, changes in customer buying behavior, and variations in demand across different areas and consumer types.
Participants also identified key challenges and concerns, such as difficulties in maintaining stable supply and pricing, commodities that are becoming harder to source, and emerging risks in the coming weeks and months, including which issues are considered most urgent.
The discussion likewise highlighted the coping mechanisms being implemented by businesses, including adjustments in sourcing strategies, pricing approaches, and inventory management, as well as their effectiveness.
Finally, the group provided recommendations and collaborative suggestions, focusing on possible government support, policy or process improvements, and stronger coordination among distributors, wholesalers, and retailers to better manage supply and pricing conditions moving forward.
During the meeting, Ms. Patricia Joy Zotomayor of DTI MIMAROPA shared updates and advisories on the Suggested Retail Price (SRP), while Mr. Versuelo Garcia III, Chief of the Consumer Protection Division of DTI MIMAROPA, provided insights on addressing common concerns and issues raised by business establishments.
The meeting was hosted by Mr. Marvin L. Macalalad, Consumer Advocacy Officer of DTI Oriental Mindoro.
DTI extends its appreciation to all participants for their valuable insights and active engagement in strengthening market monitoring and ensuring consumer protection in the province.
