30 days ago, this page had no clear direction.

Today, I want to thank YOU. πŸ’•

Whether you commented, saved a post, sent me a DM, or just quietly read along β€” thank you for trusting me with your VA journey.

Here's what we covered this month:
🩺 What a Medical VA actually does (and why you don't need a medical degree)
πŸ“ The First-Time VA Starter Checklist
πŸ’Ό How to write a pitch that doesn't get ghosted
β˜• A real day in my life as a Medical VA
🌱 Mindset shifts for "late-starting" VAs
πŸ“š The Medical VA glossary every beginner needs

But this is just the beginning.

Starting next month, here's what's coming:
✨ Live Q&As (you bring questions, I bring answers)
✨ The Medical VA Starter Kit launch (founding member pricing)
✨ Free weekly email tips (drop your email in the link in bio πŸ‘€)
✨ Real student success stories
✨ More behind-the-scenes from my actual client work

If you want to be a Medical VA in 2026 β€” you're in the right place.

If you're a struggling VA looking for your first US client β€” keep showing up here.

I'm not a guru.
I'm not selling you a "6-figure dream."
I'm a working Medical VA who decided to bring others up with me. 🀍

One last thing: tell me in the comments β€” what's ONE thing this page taught you this month? I want to know what's working so I can give you more of it. πŸ‘‡

See you next month. Same time. Same energy. Different goals. πŸ’•

Sneak peek πŸ‘€

I've been quietly building something for the past few weeks β€” and I think it's time to share.

It's called the Medical VA Starter Kit. πŸ’ΌπŸ©Ί

Inside, you'll get:
βœ… The full Medical VA Glossary (50+ terms decoded)
βœ… My exact pitch template (the one that landed me 3 US clinics)
βœ… A HIPAA awareness mini-course (the basics every Medical VA needs)
βœ… Insurance verification cheat sheet
βœ… Sample patient intake workflows
βœ… A 30-day "first client" action plan
βœ… Editable Canva portfolio template

Basically β€” everything I wish I had on Day 1 of my Medical VA journey.

Why am I making this?

Because for the past year, my DMs have been FLOODED with the same questions:
"Marijoy, how did you start as a Medical VA?"
"Marijoy, what should I include in my portfolio?"
"Marijoy, can you teach me?"

I can't answer 200 DMs a week. But I CAN package everything into one resource you can use today.

🎁 Founding members get 50% off + a 1-on-1 review of their portfolio with me.

Drop "WAITLIST" in the comments and I'll DM you when it's live. πŸ’•

(This is a one-time founding offer β€” once we launch, it's full price.)

3 mistakes I made in my first 90 days as a VA β€” so you don't have to. πŸ˜…

I wish someone had told me this in 2023.

❌ MISTAKE #1: I undercharged out of fear.
I quoted $3/hour because I thought "I'm just starting, I should be cheap."

REALITY: Cheap rates attract cheap clients. They demand more, complain more, and disappear without paying. My BEST clients have always been the ones who paid my full rate without negotiating.

The fix: Set a rate that respects your time, even on Day 1. $5-7/hr is the floor for entry-level VAs in 2026.

❌ MISTAKE #2: I said YES to everything.
"Can you also do graphic design?" YES. "Can you manage my Pinterest?" YES. "Can you do my taxes?" Y... wait, no.

REALITY: Saying yes to scope creep made me overwhelmed, underpaid, and resentful. I burned out by month 4.

The fix: Define your services in writing. Anything outside = new project, new rate.

❌ MISTAKE #3: I didn't track my hours.
I "estimated" how long tasks took. Spoiler: I was always off. Some weeks I worked 60 hours and billed 30.

REALITY: You can't grow what you don't measure. Untracked time = undervalued you.

The fix: Use a free tool like Toggl from Day 1. Track EVERYTHING. You'll spot inefficiencies AND prove your value to clients.

If you're 0-90 days into your VA journey, save this. ✨

Which mistake are YOU about to make (or already making)? Comment below β€” I'll respond to every single one. πŸ’•

"But what does a Medical VA actually DO all day?" 🩺

Most popular DM I get. Let me show you.

🟒 APPOINTMENT MANAGEMENT
β†’ Schedule new patient bookings
β†’ Confirm next-day appointments
β†’ Reschedule cancellations
β†’ Send patient reminders (text/email)

🟒 INSURANCE COORDINATION
β†’ Verify patient insurance before visits
β†’ Submit prior authorization requests
β†’ Follow up on pending approvals
β†’ Document approved/denied claims

🟒 PATIENT COMMUNICATION
β†’ Respond to patient portal messages
β†’ Coordinate referrals to specialists
β†’ Send post-visit follow-up surveys
β†’ Handle pre-visit paperwork

🟒 ADMIN SUPPORT
β†’ Update patient charts in EHR
β†’ Manage doctor's calendar
β†’ Email management (inbox zero!)
β†’ Document scanning + filing

🟒 REPORTING
β†’ Daily appointment reports
β†’ Weekly insurance verification status
β†’ Monthly performance summaries

NONE of this requires a medical degree.
ALL of it requires reliability, attention to detail, and HIPAA awareness.

This is why Medical VAs are in HIGH demand right now β€” US clinics are short-staffed and looking for trained Filipino VAs to take this off their plates.

Could YOU do this? 99% chance: YES.

POV: It's 6 AM in the Philippines and my US client is just wrapping up their day. β˜•πŸŒ…

Here's what a real Medical VA morning looks like β€” no aesthetic exaggeration:
US TIME:
✨ 5:45 AM β€” Wake up. Coffee. (Non-negotiable.)
✨ 6:00 AM β€” Check overnight emails from US clinic
✨ 6:30 AM β€” Update patient appointments in EHR
✨ 7:30 AM β€” Insurance verification batch (3-5 patients)
✨ 9:00 AM β€” Quick break, breakfast with family
✨ 10:00 AM β€” Patient follow-up calls/messages
✨ 12:00 NN β€” Lunch + nap (yes, I nap. Fight me. 😴)
✨ 2:00 PM β€” Admin documentation, charting
✨ 4:00 PM β€” End-of-day report to client
✨ 5:00 PM β€” Logging off. Family time. πŸ’•

This is my reality.
Not "laptop on the beach in Bali."
Not "I make 6 figures from my phone."

Just consistent, focused work β€” on MY schedule β€” supporting clients I genuinely respect.

That's the gift of being a VA.
Not the hype. The HOMEFREEDOM.

Being there when my kid wakes up.
Eating lunch with my family.
Working in pajamas if I want.
Earning in dollars, living in pesos.

If this life sounds like what you want β€” keep showing up. The work is real. The reward is real. 🀍

DM I got this week:

"Marijoy, I've applied to 47 jobs in 2 months. Zero replies. Should I quit?"

My honest answer: No. But you need to STOP what you're doing immediately.

Here's why 47 applications got 0 replies:

πŸ” Problem #1: Spray and Pray
You're sending the same generic pitch to every job. Clients can smell it from a mile away. They want to feel seen β€” not like #38 on your list.

πŸ” Problem #2: No Niche Clarity
"I do social media, admin, customer support, data entry, graphic design..." reads as desperate. Pick ONE thing you do BEST.

πŸ” Problem #3: No Proof
If your portfolio is "I'll do anything" with no samples, you look like 10,000 other applicants. Mock work > no work.

πŸ” Problem #4: Wrong Platforms
If you're only on OnlineJobs.ph, you're competing with 100k other Filipino VAs for the same jobs. LinkedIn + cold pitching changes the game.

πŸ” Problem #5: Your Profile Pic
I know this sounds shallow. But a blurry, casual selfie loses to a clean smiling headshot 100% of the time. Clients hire HUMANS.

The fix?
β†’ Stop applying for 1 week.
β†’ Fix your niche, portfolio, profile, and pitch.
β†’ Then apply to 5-10 RIGHT-FIT jobs per week with PERSONALIZED pitches.

Quality over quantity. Always.

If this hit, save it and share it with a struggling VA friend. πŸ’•

I almost cried reading this email from Dr. R. last month. πŸ’Œ

"Marijoy completely transformed how our clinic handles scheduling. She is reliable, professional, and truly cares about her work."
β€” Dr. R., USA

This is why I do what I do.

Not for the paychecks (though those help feed my family πŸ™).
Not for the "VA influencer" status (I don't want it).

For THIS β€” the moment a healthcare provider can finally exhale because someone competent is handling the admin chaos.

A Medical VA isn't "just" admin help.
We're the reason doctors can sleep at night.
We're the reason patients get their appointment reminders.
We're the reason insurance gets verified before the visit.

If you're considering becoming a Medical VA but doubting your worth β€” please read Dr. R's words again. πŸ’•

YOU could be the reason a doctor in Texas, Florida, or California finally gets to take a deep breath.

That's the gift you bring.

Comment "MEDICAL" if you want to learn the exact path I took to get here. 🩺

If you've been told you're "starting late" as a VA, this is for you. πŸ’•

I started at 28. Some of my mentors started at 40. One of my closest VA friends started at 52 β€” she's now earning 6 figures (in pesos) supporting a US doctor.

The VA industry doesn't care how old you are.
It cares whether you show up, deliver, and grow.

Your "late start" is your ADVANTAGE.
You bring patience. Life experience. Real communication skills. The ability to work under pressure because you've done HARD things already.

So if you're 30, 40, 50 and reading this β€” please stop apologizing for "starting now."

Now is the only moment you can start.

Tag a friend who needs to hear this. 🀍

Same job. Two pitches. One got hired. The other got ghosted. πŸ‘€

Let me show you why.

❌ THE GHOSTED PITCH:
"Hi! I'm interested in this VA position. I have experience in admin tasks and I'm a fast learner. I'm available immediately and willing to be trained. Hope to hear from you soon!"

βœ… THE HIRED PITCH:
"Hi Dr. Sarah β€” I noticed your practice is expanding into telehealth. As a Medical VA who's handled patient intake and insurance verification for 3 US clinics, I can take appointment scheduling off your plate within your first week. I've attached a sample patient intake workflow I built for a similar practice. When works for a 15-minute call this week?"

See the difference?

The first pitch is about HER.
The second pitch is about HIM β€” and shows proof, specificity, and a clear next step.

3 things the winning pitch does:
1️⃣ Uses the client's name + something specific about their business
2️⃣ Names a result, not just a task ("take it off your plate within your first week")
3️⃣ Includes a sample/proof + a soft CTA (the call)

If you've been getting ghosted, your pitch is the problem. Not your skills.
