🌧️ THE WISDOM OF SIYAM-SIYAM
What are you preparing while it rains?

Last Monday, my mentor Sir Rolly shared a beautiful story about his grandfather, a farmer.

He said farmers traditionally looked forward to the siyam-siyam—the prolonged rains that usually came around August or September. The rain soaked and softened the dry, parched soil, making the land easier to plow for rice cultivation.

But while it rained, they prepared.

They knew the rain would eventually stop.

That made me think:
Maybe some seasons in our lives are not meant for harvesting yet.

Maybe they are meant for preparing.

It also reminded me of the four things God has entrusted to us:

TIME — steward your season.
TALENTS — develop your gifts.
TREASURES — manage your resources faithfully.
TESTIMONY — let your life honor the Giver.

Because ultimately, stewardship is not about maximizing what we have.

It is about giving value to the Giver more than to the gifts.

The resources are entrusted to us.
God remains the Owner.

So while it rains, prepare.

While you wait, grow.

And when the next season comes, may your life testify:
“I did not waste what God entrusted to me.”

I was with my team’s July performers today, and we were reminded of one thing:

VALUE over HYPE.

When people expect applause and “lollipops” simply for doing what their roles already require, we risk lowering the meaning of value.

Today, we ate at a restaurant that reminded us what real value looks like—genuine smiles, heart-warming service, good food, and an experience that exceeded what we expected for every peso we paid.

They didn’t hype themselves.

They simply delivered.

So I told my July performers:

“For now, let’s settle for a Korean dish and just look at how we can afford a Korean trip next.” 🇰🇷😆

Not because we are entitled to it, but because we understand that rewards should follow value—not replace it.

Doing what is expected is the standard.

Going beyond it is where value begins.

Hype gets attention.
Value earns trust.
Excellence opens doors.

Stewardship over salesmanship.

Today, Shaun and I had the privilege of meeting two gentlemen from the financial services industry whose expertise lies in investment solutions in Singapore.

One thing immediately stood out during our conversation: both of them explicitly reject commission-driven financial advising. Instead, they are committed to client-first, needs-based planning—a philosophy that deeply resonated with us.

They then asked how many meetings it usually takes before Shaun and I close a case.

When I shared that it typically takes us five to seven meetings, they responded positively. They admitted that many perceive the financial services industry in the Philippines to be saturated with advisers whose primary goal is to close a sale on the first or second meeting—sometimes to meet their own targets rather than the genuine needs of the client.

Their words reminded us that while quick results may be celebrated, trust is never rushed. Understanding a family’s goals, values, concerns, and season of life takes time. Stewardship is not about selling a product; it is about serving people well.

As Shaun and I prepare to sleep tonight, our hearts are filled with gratitude. We thank God for allowing us to fulfill the mission He has entrusted to us—to serve with integrity, to put people before policies, and to honor Him in this calling.

May we always remember that our success is not measured by how quickly we close a sale, but by how faithfully we serve those God brings into our lives.

How can the values, the business, and the family's harmony continue when its founders are no longer actively leading?

Business succession is not merely a legal or financial matter.

It is a stewardship matter. (Read it again. Read it aloud. Let it sink in.

Whether the next generation chooses to actively manage the business or not, providing them with financial flexibility allows them to make thoughtful decisions rather than urgent ones.

The best time to prepare our family for tomorrow is while we still have the privilege of doing so today.

As Proverbs 13:22 reminds us,
"A good person leaves an inheritance to their children's children."

An inheritance is not measured only by the amount transferred, but by the wisdom with which it is prepared.

What picture comes to mind when you hear the word retirement?

For us, it’s not just about reaching a certain age or leaving work behind.

It’s about PEACE. CALM. JOY LOVE.

We look forward to traveling to places we’ve always dreamed of visiting back, lingering over coffee in quaint cafés, watching sunsets, taking unhurried walks, and simply enjoying each other’s company.

To us, retirement isn’t the end of productivity—it’s the reward for years of faithful stewardship.

That vision is one of the biggest reasons we keep pushing ourselves today.

We don’t want to become a burden to anyone—not now, and certainly not in our retirement years. We want the freedom to choose how we live, where we go, and how we spend our time with the people we love.

The truth is, retirement isn’t something we prepare for a few years before it happens. It’s something we build—one decision at a time.
