Last March 27, about 300 Lasallian students and participants from various universities flock together to learn more about the age of AI and how it affects the Philippine Economy. This initiative, launched by a global economics class from the CLT-SOE, aims to educate the youth on how the world is being reshaped by AI in various industries and redefine the future of work, innovation, and development.
The event served as a platform for insightful discussions on the AI integration and usage in national development policies, manufacturing and healthcare, and agriculture. The following speakers participated in the discussion: Dr. Renann G. Baldovino, Engr. Grace C. Maligaya, Atty. Christian Eligius A. Jimenez, Danielle G. Dalisay, Jonas Sagadraca, and Carygine V. Isaac. Each speaker contributed valuable insights on how AI can be effectively utilized while addressing the challenges that come with its rapid advancement.
Dr. Rennann kicked things off by tackling the challenges of accessing medical data due to privacy barriers and concluded that it would greatly help if hospitals collected primary data. Following this, Ms. Dalisay underscored the growing concern that AI will eventually replace workers, it was then recommended that the job market equip themselves with adaptability and AI-complementary skills to avoid this. Lastly, Mr. Sagadraca showed Abbott's newest AI-powered innovations that include health trackers and heart equipment. However, despite the new applications of AI that will definitely impact the economy, it is important to consider its ethical implications as discussed by Atty. Jimenez.
Overall, the event highlighted a crucial message: AI is not just a tool for innovation but a transformative force that requires responsible use, continuous learning, and collaboration across sectors. It reinforced the idea that the future of AI in the Philippines depends not only on technological advancement but also on how society chooses to adopt and regulate it.
We extend our most sincere gratitude to our speakers for their invaluable contributions to the discussion of AI and its implications on the future of our economy. We also wish to thank the attendees who joined us and participated in meaningful discussions with our speakers.
As we move forward, initiatives like this continue to play an important role in preparing the youth for an evolving world. Stay tuned for more updates and future sessions as we continue to extend the horizons of knowledge and empower the next generation to navigate the age of AI! ๐ค
