DERIVING FORMULAS AND SOLVING FOR THE SURFACE AREA OR SOLIDS

Remember;
The surface area(S) of a solid is the sum of the Area of the surface that make up a solid.
To find the surface area ,recall the properties of the solid figure ,solve for the are of the faces and base/s then add .Since it is an area ,the unit of measure used is a square unit.

1.Prism S=2(area of the base) + perimeter x the height .
A.Cube; 6 faces are congruent square : S=6xS².
B. Square prism S= 2 S² + perimeter x lenght or S=2 S²+PH.
C.Equilateral triangular prism S=2x0.433s²+PH.

2.Pyramid has 1 polygonal base and the number of triangular faces depends on the base S=area of the base +½(Perimeter x slant height)

3.Cylinder has congruent circular based and the lateral faces a curved rectangular surface with lenght and width related to its circumference and height .
S=πr² CH or 2πr² +(π DH) or 2 πr²+2πH
