✅About the Role:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Virtual Medical Assistant (VMA) with proven experience in insurance verification. This role is critical in supporting front-desk functions, ensuring accurate insurance intake, and improving patient onboarding efficiency. You will be the first point of contact for patients and play a vital role in keeping providers and billing teams updated in real time.
✅Key Responsibilities
• Conduct insurance eligibility and benefits verification using payer portals and/or phone calls (including Medicare, Medicaid, PPO, HMO, EPO plans)
• Confirm coverage details such as deductibles, co-pays, authorizations, and exclusions
• Coordinate appointment scheduling, rescheduling, and confirmations via EMR or practice management systems
• Complete patient intake calls, portal follow-ups, and documentation review (ID, insurance cards, referral letters)
• Update patient demographics, insurance details, and contact information accurately in EMR systems (e.g., eClinicalWorks, Athena, Epic, Kareo)
• Initiate prior authorization requests or flag issues for the billing team
• Collaborate with providers, billing departments, and schedulers to minimize delays and denials
• Maintain HIPAA-compliant documentation and communication practices
✅Required Qualifications
• Minimum 2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant, Insurance Verifier, or Healthcare BPO representative
• Hands-on experience with EMRs (e.g., eCW, Athena, AdvancedMD, Kareo, or similar)
• Familiarity with major U.S. insurance plans, authorization workflows, and portal navigation
• Strong English communication skills (verbal and written)
• Ability to handle patient calls with professionalism, empathy, and speed
• High-speed internet, a quiet workspace, and a functioning headset
✅Preferred Qualifications
• Background in U.S. healthcare revenue cycle (RCM), front desk, or medical billing
• Experience with tools like RingCentral, Zoom, Google Workspace, or VoIP-based communication
• Knowledge of ICD-10/CPT codes is a plus but not required
