β οΈ ADVISORY | MT. KANLAON MODERATELY EXPLOSIVE ERUPTION
At 7:33 A.M. today, July 9, 2026, Mt. Kanlaon generated a moderately explosive eruption. The event follows after the heavy rainfall brought by the southwest monsoon, enhanced by Typhoon Bavi.
The public, particularly residents of communities that may be affected by ashfall, is advised to stay indoors whenever possible, wear face masks or damp cloths over the nose and mouth when going outside, protect the eyes with goggles or eyeglasses, close doors and windows to prevent ash from entering homes, and avoid unnecessary travel in ashfall-affected areas. Those with respiratory conditions, children, older adults, and pregnant women should take extra precautions.
Residents, especially those living near river channels and other hazard-prone areas around Mt. Kanlaon, are likewise advised to remain vigilant for possible rain-induced lahars and other volcanic hazards. Continue to monitor official advisories from PHIVOLCS, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), and your respective Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (LDRRMOs), and strictly follow evacuation and safety instructions issued by local authorities.
