The Department of Trade and Industry– Davao del Norte Provincial Office, in collaboration with the Provincial Agriculture Office (PAGRO) and the Provincial Coffee Council (SIKAP-DavNor), came together for a consultation and coordination meeting with coffee farmers from Barangay Luna, Kapalong, Davao del Norte on August 10, 2026.
The meeting served as a platform to discuss the farmers’ needs, identify priority interventions, and strengthen collaboration among the coffee farmers and partner agencies.
During the activity, DTI-Davao del Norte provided an orientation on available programs and support for coffee farmers, capacity building, enterprise development, marketing assistance, and other interventions that may help strengthen their organization and improve their coffee value chain activities.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Agriculture Office (PAGRO) presented its programs, projects, and priority interventions that may support the development of the local coffee sector and benefit the farmers of Kapalong.
Also present during the meeting was Mr. Amyl Brian Carcedo, President of SIKAP-DavNor, who shared his message of support and expressed the council’s commitment to extending assistance and guidance to the emerging coffee farmers’ organization as it works toward growth and sustainability.
🌱 Key Agreements and Next Steps
The meeting resulted in several important agreements, including:
☑️ Election of officers to establish the leadership and organizational structure of the group;
☑️ Crafting of a three-year development plan focusing on business registration, coffee production, training and seminars, and other priority interventions;
☑️ Identification of priority areas where government agencies and partners can provide appropriate assistance; and
☑️ Agreement to organize and register the group as the Kapalong Coffee Farmers Association, with registration under the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
The activity marks another step toward building a more organized, empowered, and sustainable coffee farmers’ organization in Kapalong. Through strengthened collaboration among farmers, government agencies, and industry partners, the group aims to create clearer directions for its development and unlock opportunities for productivity, capacity building, market access, and enterprise growth.
