The BRP Miguel Malvar (FFG-6) successfully returned to the Philippines following its deployment to RIMPAC 2026 in Hawaii (held from June 24 to July 31, 2026). As the lead ship of its class commissioned in May 2025, the exercise marked a key operational milestone for the Philippine Navy's premier guided-missile frigate.
Key Highlights from BRP Miguel Malvar's RIMPAC 2026 Participation:
3rd Place in Gunnery Competition: Firing its Oto Melara 76mm Super Rapid main gun, the Miguel Malvar earned 3rd place in the Naval Surface Fire Support (NSFS) Rodeo live-fire event against a field of 14 international warships.
Air Defense & Complex Operations: Participated in defensive counter-air (DCA) and raid exercise (RAIDEX) serials alongside US Navy Arleigh Burke-class destroyers and the Republic of Singapore Navy's RSS Steadfast, taking on the role of Anti-Air Warfare (AAW) coordinator.
Long-Range Interoperability: Representing Naval Task Group 84, the ship's trans-Pacific voyage included group sail maneuvers, replenishment-at-sea approaches with the Italian Navy, and crossing the International Date Line.
