Goals

The overall goals of team building are to increase the teams understanding of team dynamics and improve how the team works together. Unlike working as a group, working as a team incorporates group accountability rather than individual accountability and results in a collective work product.[5] Team building encourages the team approach to working on a project. There are many advantages to this approach. These advantages include the following:
Increased flexibility in skills and abilities
More productive than work groups with individual mindset
More beneficial in times of organizational change
Encourage both individual and team development and improvement
Focuses on group goals to accomplish more beneficial tasks
[edit]Leadership roles

Successful team leaders frequently contain six of the same leadership abilities:[6]
A team leader is usually goal-oriented to keep team the on track.
They must promote a safe environment where members can openly discuss issues.
A leader must build confidence amongst members by building and maintaining trust and offering the members responsibilities.
A leader should be technically competent in matters relating to team tasks and goals.
It is important for a team leader to set a manageable list of priorities for the team to keep members focused.
Finally, leaders should offer clear performance expectations by recognizing and rewarding excellent performance, and provide feedback to others.
Carl Larson and Frank LaFasto conducted a three year study of over 75 diverse teams. By interviewing key members of each team, Larson & LaFasto identified eight effective strategies a leader should employ to enhance team building:
Establish clear and inspiring team goals
Maintain a results-oriented team structure
Assemble competent team members
Strive for unified commitment
Provide a collaborative climate
Encourage standards of excellence
Furnish external support and recognition
Apply principled leadership

Why Network Marketing?

I was in the E quadrant, according to Robert Kayosaki, (See the video below from Robert Kayosaki for more information.) for many years working as a nurse. It was a 'safe, secure job with benefits, and paid holidays.'
This employment (E) allowed me the opportunity to pursue my S-Quadrant dream of having my own massage business.

The E-Quadrant had a retirement system in place. In addition, I had been placing money out of my paycheck into a tax-deferred savings plan as well. I also had accumulated sick time to be used to pay for health insurance premiums.

As a Massage Therapist and owning my own business, this puts me in the S-Quadrant according to Robert Kayosaki and I make money when I work. There are certainly pros and cons to owning your own business.

Robert Kiyosaki states, “To be truly financially independent is to expand to the B quadrant to either a large number of employees or to be an owner of a large network marketing business.”

Having a large number of employees is not applicable to all of us if our interest is having a smaller business strategy.

The next step is to move to the I or Investor quadrant. He uses several steps and examples in his book, “The Business School For People Who Like Helping People,” on how to achieve this depending on what your goals or intentions for yourself are in your life.

Building and owning a network or a system according to Robert Kiyosaki is being your own employer within the B-Quadrant. He uses the cash flow quadrant to demonstrate this. A cash flow business for people who want to be wealth builders.

21 Steps to Becoming an MLM Leader
- Ray Higdon
If you want to become an MLM Leader, I am going to show you exactly how to become one in this article. There are little things you can do starting today, from wherever you are, to set yourself on the path. Enjoy these 21 steps and go toward your MLM Success!

What is an actual MLM Leader?
It may not be what you think. In my opinion, here is the definition of an MLM Leader. They are someone who creates leaders, not followers. They are someone who strives to get their teammates up on stage. They are someone willing to give credit to others if it helps them in accomplishing their goals of getting teammates transformed into leaders. They only define themselves by the performance of their team, not their own performance as they know that is short lived and is NOT the true essence of the network marketing industry. An MLM Leader, with intense focus over a period of 18-36 months, should have the ability to create a lifelong residual income because they have created enough leaders to sustain it. An MLM Leader may NOT be considered a guru, superstar or hotshot but known as a great teacher, trainer and coach.

THE 21 steps to becoming an MLM Leader

1. Have a huge vision. This SHOULD be created within 48 hours of joining a company if not sooner. A good MLM leader upline will help you with this process. For my personal video on this process, See The Visioning Process of Young Millionaires

2. Embrace the fact that product knowledge has nothing to do with performance and also teach this to your team.

3. Embrace the fact that compensation plan knowledge has nothing to do with performance and also teach this to your team.

4. Set a daily routine that you COMMIT to that has the inability to fail. Then, create a similar routine for your team, divert it into two versions, one for part time and one for fulltime teammates. To see my suggestions you can visit these two posts: Changing your daily routine and MLM Routine

5. Create a simple step by step training page for your teammates and their teammates to get started with when they join your MLM. My team training is located at Numis Training Page

6. Don’t sabotage yourself by being stressed out if people do not meet your expectations. This is a killer of many a would be MLM Leader. When some on their team do not have success, they start to link enrolling people with being stressed, know that not everyone will be as hungry as others for their success as you are for them and do your best.

7. Until you have a team, dedicate and commit to hitting your prospecting numbers or none of the rest of the steps matter. When I first joined my primary company I had a goal to have 20 people tell me No each day for the first 6 months. If you set a “no” goal, you will get some yes’s.

8. Never forget the immortal words of Eric Worre – “It’s not about what works, it’s about what duplicates”. “What works” is a constant tormentor of talented marketers, especially online marketers. Good online marketers have the ability to generate temporary money at will but usually cannot transfer this skill nor do this within a network marketing company and create duplication. Know that network marketing is NOT get rich quick.

9. Don’t ask for favors. Create ways for you to create value for leaders in your industry. The best article that I could not write any better comes from my friend Ferny – Create Value Instead of asking for Favors. Daily get requests to “Like” someone’s fan page, give them a testimonial, review their website or whatever. Start to be someone that leaders WANT to do these things versus just ask for favors. Read the article for more on this.

10. Stop leading with your product. Even if it made you lose 400 pounds, grew back a limb or gives you 500 miles to the gallon in your hummer. Products, no matter how good they are, carry a very low attraction and vibration and virtually zero loyalty or retention. Sense of community, leadership and training are much more powerful things to lead with and DO create retention and loyalty. Lately it seems people have forgotten this basic principle of attraction marketing. For more help with this, see my article – Should You Lead with the product?

11. Spend time asking questions of those who have the MLM Leadership you desire. Be respectful of their time and don’t attempt to sound smarter than them by challenging what they say to you. You would be shocked how often I get this.

12. Regardless of what stage you are in, schedule learning time every single day. The top MLM Leaders do.

13. Do not pitch your team another MLM, even if it is a tool. Here’s why, the weaker reps will, instead of attempting to get better at your main company, will go to where it is easier and then, because they went there out of weakness, will eventually fail at that as well. “Do not wish for things to be easier, wish for you to be better” – Jim Rohn

14. Get better at speaking and presenting. A good book to help is Tony Jeary’s How to inspire any audience

15. When you go through a slump, which, will happen, understand that it is a direct correlation to how much value you are putting into the marketplace and how many people you are talking to.

16. What you lack in skill, make up for in numbers. When you begin or before you have been properly trained, there is a good chance you will be terrible at recruiting.

17. Bring your sleeping bag to the house of your leaders. Be willing to roll up your sleeves with the leaders that emerge from your team. Visit their city, mail them stuff and be willing to be unreasonable to help them reach their goals and then teach them that same principle.

18. Don’t do anything you would NOT want your team to duplicate or attempt to duplicate.

19. Share what is actually working and never have a lack mentality. I know many people classified as an MLM Leader that teach one thing but secretly do other things that are completely different…and they wonder why they don’t have duplication.

20. Don’t get too tied up with technology, this is a people business, not a technology industry. The amount of “B-Roll” in your videos has very little to do with your success in the MLM industry. How you connect with and work with people is infinitely more crucial than how great you and your marketing materials look.

21. Purposely life the lifestyle. I am an admitted workaholic but I do strive to have great experiences and have fun and I do make sure to catalog these experiences. Someone invited me to a seminar on 11/11/11 and I realized that I could not make it as I will be on my honeymoon…in Fiji, at the Tony Robbins resort. I almost cried when I thought about it. From personal foreclosure to Fiji in less than 2 years…God, I love this industry =)

Principles of Effective Goal Setting
By ThinkBuzan
Why is goal setting important?

If you were going on holiday or making a trip it would make good sense to choose a destination and plan the route in advance. You may even make a list of the various roads, landmarks and turnings along the way if it was an unfamiliar route.

In your journey through life, if you want to be happy and fulfilled, it makes sense to do the same. Without goal setting and planning you are leaving your future to chance. Your path through life is by accident rather than design.

Any efficient organisation will have a stated vision of what the organisation wants to achieve and a mission statement of the route to get there. You can apply the same principles in any area of your life.

Where can you apply goal setting?

Whilst goal setting can be applied anywhere, it makes sense to segment your life into different aspects and set specific goals for each. It is up to you which areas you choose. Thefollowing list may give you some ideas:

Relationships - friends, family, business associates or romance
Finance - investments, salary, sales commission
Health - diet, fitness, sport, weight management, stopping smoking
Spirituality - relaxation, meditation, connection with nature, religion
Development - learning, studies, qualifications, hobbies
Think big when goal setting

Many advocates of goal setting will advise you to set 'attainable and realistic' goals. The trouble with this approach is that it encourages you to under-estimate what you can achieve. If you study history's high achievers you will find that they mostly set themselves massive and seemingly unrealistic goals. These were broken down into smaller sub-goals that could be achieved without losing sight of the grand vision.

Thomas Edison did not set out to just develop an effective filament light bulb - his goal was to light the planet at night. In his lifetime he registered a record breaking 1093 patents achieving his big goal.

Don't limit yourself to easily achieved goals but make sure that you break big goals into smaller achievable ones with a plan and milestones along the way.

Goal setting is easier in reverse

One of the problems with big goal setting is that it can be very daunting to have a mountain to climb in front of you. It is so much easier to stand on the summit and look at the path that you took to the top.

When goal setting imagine yourself in the future once the goal was achieved. Then look back in detail and see the steps that you took:

What were the major milestones?
What resources did you need?
Who helped you along the way?
Whilst it may not turn out exactly as you envisage, you can gain more clarity and insights into the likely progress.

Another thing to bear in mind when visualising future success is to make the scene in your mind vivid and compelling, involving all the senses.

Stay focused on your goal setting targets

After the initial goal setting it is important to keep focused and remind yourself regularly of your final target. You may have been told that if you repeat a positive phrase (an affirmation) to yourself enough it will come true. The inventor of Mind Mapping, Tony Buzan warns of the perils of badly framed affirmations.

Let's say you wanted to lose weight and give up eating chocolate as part of your health goal setting programme. You may think that saying each morning, "I will not eat chocolate" would be effective. However, the main focus of the sentence is exactly what you want to avoid. You will think more about eating chocolate, so you are doomed to failure from the outset.

If instead you stood in front of the mirror saying, "I am slim and healthy" every day, it is a step in the right direction but, if the evidence from your eyes shows the opposite, you will once again fail. The brain naturally seeks out truth and will reject obviously false messages.

Buzan describes a technique he calls meta-positive thinking. This puts the focus on the process of change and the desired outcome. So an effective affirmation could be, "I am becoming a healthy eater". The focus is on the good new habit and it is true that you are on the road towards the goal.

'Tomorrow never comes' goal setting

Personal development guru Anthony Robbins defines a goal as 'a dream with a deadline'. It is important when goal setting to state the date by which time you want to achieve the goal. This gives the project urgency. It forces you to take action. If you don't set a date but leave your goal as something you want at some woolly future time you can always put things off till tomorrow.

Make sure you really, really want your goals

Do you remember the British pop group Spice Girls bursting into the music charts in the 1990s with their song 'Wannabe'? The key line in the lyrics is the phrase, "Tell me what you want, what you really, really want".

When goal setting make sure the goal is what you really, really want. There is no point putting a great deal of energy into something that you achieve only to find that it isn't what you wanted.

Imagine that I could wave a magic wand and give you your goal tomorrow. Would you be happy?

Remember that goals can change over time. You can and should review your goals regularly and adjust them if appropriate.

Using Mind Maps to keep track of your goals

You must keep a physical record of your goals when goal setting. You can just write them down but there is a far more effective technique that taps into your creativity. You need your goals to be:

Visual
Structured
Memorable
