Maraming PhilHealth members ang maaaring hindi pa nakakaalam na may benepisyo silang puwedeng gamitin kahit hindi sila naka-confine sa ospital.
Through the PhilHealth YAKAP Program, members can access primary care services such as medical consultations, essential laboratory and diagnostic services, outpatient cancer screening, and medicines.
One of these benefits is PhilHealth GAMOT, which provides each eligible beneficiary with access to up to ₱20,000 worth of covered outpatient medicines per year. This is an existing PhilHealth benefit, not a proposed program.
And to be clear, the ₱20,000 is not cash assistance. It is the annual benefit limit that may be used for medicines covered by the program and prescribed by a YAKAP doctor. Once the ₱20,000 limit has been reached, medicines beyond the covered amount would have to be paid for by the beneficiary.
The program covers medicines for different health conditions, including high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma, infections, high cholesterol, heart conditions, and other illnesses. PhilHealth's 2026 GAMOT guidelines cover 75 essential medications.
So how can you use it?
Members should first register or be empaneled with an accredited YAKAP Clinic and undergo a consultation. If medicine is medically needed, the YAKAP doctor can issue the appropriate prescription, which may then be filled through the applicable YAKAP or PhilHealth-accredited GAMOT facility.
PhilHealth also clarified that the annual limit applies per beneficiary, meaning qualified beneficiaries have their own benefit limit when prescribed medicines under the program.
If you or your family regularly spend money on maintenance or other prescribed medicines, check whether your medicines are covered and find an accredited YAKAP Clinic or GAMOT facility near you.
This may be one PhilHealth benefit worth knowing before paying out of pocket.
