From the UK, Italy, the US, Mexico, India and Philippines, Expedia’s Global Leadership Team came together to wrestle with one of the hardest disciplines in leadership:
Making strategic choices.
Not generating more options. Not creating more initiatives. Not attending more meetings.
Making choices.
Because strategy is not about what you do. It’s about what you’re willing not to do.
In today’s environment, leaders are drowning in information, competing priorities, and endless opportunities. The real challenge is not a lack of ideas. It’s having the courage to place a bet, focus resources, and commit the organization to a direction.
During our session, we explored the Five Strategic Choices that separate organizations that shape the future from those that merely react to it.
One insight stood out:
Most organizations do not fail because of poor ex*****on.
They fail because they never made the hard choices in the first place.
The best leaders create clarity where others create complexity.
They eliminate distractions. They challenge sacred cows. They say “no” more often than they say “yes.”
Because movement is not progress. Activity is not impact. And being busy is not the same as building a business that wins.
Congratulations to Expedia’s Global Leaders for sharpening one of the most valuable executive capabilities of all:
The ability to make bold choices amid uncertainty and lead with conviction when the path forward is anything but obvious.
