The Gold Standard in Philippine Auctions
From landmark works by National Artists to rare and historic collectibles, Salcedo Auctions’ recently concluded ‘The Well-Appointed Life’ sale delivered remarkable results – setting several new world records – reaffirming the market dominance of Salcedo Auctions, and the strength and enduring value of important Philippine art.
At the forefront of the sale was National Artist Fernando Amorsolo, whose pinnacle stature was reaffirmed. His 1939 ‘The Fruit Vendor’ achieved ₱23,360,000, setting a new world record for any work by the artist based on size; while his 1947 ‘Tinikling Dance’ achieved ₱38,544,000, soaring more than four times above its pre-sale estimate.
Among the modernist artists, National Artist Cesar Legaspi also set a new world record based on size, achieving ₱11,680,000.
Other highlights included:

* Fernando Amorsolo, Under the Mango Tree (1937) — ₱15,184,000
* BenCab, Untitled (From the Larawan Series) (2005) — ₱15,184,000
* H.R. Ocampo, Fifty-Three D (1953) — ₱9,344,000
The lot of two paintings by Jose Taviel de Andrade achieved ₱7,008,000, setting a new world benchmark for the artist.
Meanwhile, Elmer Borlongan’s ‘Ships Ahoy!’ reached ₱4,672,000, continuing the strong showing for contemporary Philippine art.
In the rare books and collectibles category, the first edition of Dr. José Rizal’s Noli Me Tangere sold for ₱2,803,200.
The success of this sale is a celebration of the enduring appreciation for Philippine art, heritage, and culture – with Amorsolo at its heart as its gold standard.
Consignments are now being accepted for Salcedo’s year-end marquee sale, ‘Under the Tree: The Wish List,’ scheduled on Saturday, 28 November 2026.
