LEPTOSPIROSIS
Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection caused by Leptospira microbes.
People and animals get it from water, soil, or food touched by the p*e of infected animals like rats, dogs, or cows. It causes flu signs, but severe cases can harm the kidneys and liver.
Signs and Stages
Early signs: High fever, bad headache, red eyes, chills, and sharp muscle pain.
Second stage: Some people feel better for a day or two, then get sick again with worse problems.
Severe form (Weil's disease): Yellow skin and eyes (jaundice), kidney failure, and bleeding inside the body.
How It Spreads
Dirty water: Swimming or walking in flood water or mud mixed with animal p*e.
Skin breaks: Bacteria enter through cuts, scratches, or wet parts of the face like eyes and the nose.
Animals: Handling sick animals or farm dirt.
Care and Safety
Antibiotics: Doctors use pills like doxycycline or penicillin to cure the infection. Early help works best.
Stay clean: Cover skin cuts with waterproof tape before going near flood water.
Avoid risks: Do not wade or swim in stagnant or flood water.
If you or someone you know had contact with flood water or has a fever and muscle pain, please tell me when the contact happened so I can help you decide on seeing a doctor.
