Communicating Effectively

Communication is basic and always thought of as simple. However, in organizations (and life), many problems occur because of the failure to communicate properly; therefore, it is not as simple as it seems. With the advent of social media and electronic communication, we have more ways of communicating, but also more ways of misunderstanding each other. Poor communication skills can lead to unclear instructions, unnecessary conflict, stress, displeased customers, and unhappy employees. No wonder good communication skills appear as a requirement in almost all positions! Bad communication can also be more than bad management practice, it may be unethical and may thus impact one’s integrity.

Communication is a soft skill that is useful at all levels, but critical for managers and aspiring managers. It is a continuous skill a manager uses as he/she plans, organizes, leads, and controls. Effective communication is more than getting your message across, it is also about building and maintaining positive relationships.

This course is designed for current and potential supervisors and managers who are 1) interested in increasing their awareness and understanding of communication and how it impacts effectiveness, efficiency, and relationships, 2) determined to assess their own communication skills, and 3) eager to know how to improve their skills.
