New Indian Food Find in Mandaluyong: Pranam Restaurant Review 🥘

Last weekend, my husband and I were craving something chatpata and desi. Instead of our usual drive to RICH, we decided to follow a friend's recommendation and headed to Pranam, a new Indian restaurant in the Market!

Since the owner is Rajasthani, our hopes were high for some authentic regional flavors. Here is the breakdown of our experience:

The Starters:

Pani Puri: Definitely a win! The plating was beautiful. Though the portion of teekha pani was small initially, the staff refilled it immediately upon request.

Tandoori Aloo: A bit of a letdown. It was quite bland and had a bit too much food coloring for our liking.

The Main Course:

Gobhi Aloo Masala: The absolute highlight! It was fresh, perfectly seasoned, and beautifully presented. Highly recommended.

Tandoori Roti: Unfortunately, these were undercooked and served cut into small pieces, which was a bit unusual.

Kadi Pakora: Being a Rajasthani specialty, we had high expectations, but this was a disappointment. The gravy lacked depth and the pakoras were quite hard.

Service & Vibe:
The service is on the slower side, so don't go if you are in a massive rush. However, the owner and the staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, which goes a long way!

Overall Verdict: ⭐⭐⭐
The food was a mix of hits and misses, but the potential is definitely there. With a few tweaks to the kitchen consistency, I can see this becoming a great stopover for Indian food lovers in the area. 🇮🇳

What a delightful and privileged experience it was to be invited to a tasting and special seven-course dinner at the iconic Manila Hotel, hosted by its President, former Governor and Senator Atty. Jose “Joey” D. Lina, and Chef Riza Shanti Lim.

It was truly humbling to be in the company of Atty. Joey Lina, who achieved the distinction of being the youngest Senator at 35 and authored the significant "Lina Law" criminalizing squatting in the Philippines, alongside Chef Riza Shanti Lim. Chef Riza, founder of Orissa Garden of Wellness in Magalang, Pampanga, collaborated with The Manila Hotel’s Executive Chef Konrad Walter and Chef Kiran to create an impressive all-Vegetarian/Vegan menu that beautifully marries nutrition with gourmet appeal. Her dedication to plant-based diets, holistic healing, and vegan culinary artistry was evident throughout the meal.

The evening was also a pleasure as I was seated among fellow board members of I-WE (Indian Women in Enterprise, Philippines).

The seven-course dinner unfolded beautifully, with each dish arriving artistically plated and thoughtfully portioned. Within Manila's evolving vegan landscape, this seven-course culinary journey was exquisite, with visually stunning plating and exceptional flavors, marking a unique culinary experience.
By the end of the meal, I was pleasantly full, having savored such an intricately designed and thoughtfully curated experience. It's noteworthy that Manila Hotel is now embracing guests with special vegan and vegetarian menus, offering a fine dining experience with expertly crafted courses.

My sincere thanks to Atty. Joey Lina, Chef Riza Shanti Lim, Executive Chef Konrad Walter, and Chef Kiran for making the evening so memorable and flavorful. It ranks among the best fine dining experiences I've had in the Philippines over the past decade. The entire experience was not only enriching but also inspiring, witnessing Atty. Joey Lina's remarkable achievements are coupled with his genuine humility and approachability.

This is one small hidden gem, which I didn’t want to share just in case it might get too crowded. But at the same time couldn’t help myself from sharing this amazing tiny restaurant in Cuboa which is 100% vegetarian and also serves only Satvik food ( NO onion NO garlic).

Though the food is Satvik, yet the taste is amazingly good and one can never find it has no onion or garlic. The service is slow as everything is made fresh on order, the prices are not too exorbitant and the best the portion size is perfect! It has become our go-to Resturant past few months! Do note on weekends it becomes really busy with many local Filipinos and especially patrons of Iskon and Brahmakumaris coming over there, so do expect some waiting!

New restaurant find 🚨🌟🌟🌟🚨

Finally for vegetarians there is one restaurant opened up in Makati which serves vegetarian and only vegetarian Indian cuisine- Desi Palace, opposite to The Columns, 3 Malugay Makati.

My kids loved eating the Samosa chat which was served with chole, tamrind chutney and mint chutney. Before I could take pictures, kids just swiped them off clean 🤷‍♀️!

We also ordered HaraBhara kabab, Mushroom tikka, paneer Butter Masala, chappati and Hyderabadi Biryani. Chappati were super good, soft and served hot just like how moms serve from pan to plate. Paneer curry was good but we could not really enjoy the biryani as coming from Hyderabad, we could not relate to our taste palate to the served dish. But however it’s good place to hogg on the food, the ambiance is also very nice with Desi looks!

New vegan restaurant find alert !
My kids are ardent fans of Naruto and Japanease Manga cartoons, so much so that they wanted to travel Japan to eat Ramen and Shoba noodles!

So I decided to find first Restaurant which serves vegetarian version of Ramen. Being vegetarian, it was nearly impossible but after some searching and browsing, to my luck, found this all vegan restaurant serving some great southeast Asian food!

Wabi Sabi Noodle house is located in Makati Square in Makati! The whole menu Vegetarian and also vegan options are available.
The pricing is quite reasonable and serving portions are small but good for one person. Tastewise, we loved Shoyu Ramen, Summer rolls and Gyoza, but the shoba noodles were let down or probably didn’t suit our tastebuds. But over and all the restaurant is worth trying!

Since the Pandemic is done, I’m back to exploring new eateries/Restaurants!
Past few days i had been reading in groups about a new Indian restaurant which opened up in Pablacion, Makati.

We were all very hungry a group of 5 members so ordered most of the Vegetarian options available in menu though i was very hesitant especially since the prices were on par with Royal Indian Curry House (RICH).
But as the soup, starters were served, all our apprehensions vanished and we were in awe with the food, taste and presentation!
This was by far the best food we had in Manila and for the first time, our tummies were totally filled, no heavy feeling of greasiness or bloating and instead it was a total gastronomical experience, so much so that the family is already looking forward to our next weekend meal.

Look's like finally Philippines is having some good options for fully Vegetarian food! Thanks to Vagan food and it's popularity among Filipino's, Vegetarians get to try some good variety now!

Tried food at Shaka which is totally plant food! The menu is amazing with some interesting options!
We had Pumpkin soup which was creamy and delicious but nothing to rave about!
Next tried Vietnamese noodle salad, which was excellent and tasted best, I requested for some chilli flakes to add some heat.
Diaster was the Bombay royal burger which is nowhere to what one expects when you say Bombay burger! Nomore comments 😃

However I'm glad that we have good options now especially since it's already opened in BGC and going to open in Salcedo, Makati
