On the AI-Generated Video Released by China Daily

The Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII) expresses its profound disappointment over the AI-generated video released by China Daily portraying the Philippines through a derogatory caricature. We respectfully urge that this video be taken down and removed. No matter how sincere or deeply held the differences between governments on maritime or territorial issues, there can be no justification for depictions that demean the dignity of an entire nation. Honest disagreements should never descend into ridicule or ad hominem attacks.

The Philippines and China have been friends, neighbors, and trading partners for more than a thousand years. Our bilateral relationship is far broader and far more enduring than any single political or territorial disagreement. Such issues are best addressed through diplomacy, mutual respect, and constructive dialogue—not through imagery that risks inflaming public sentiment or undermining goodwill between our peoples.

FFCCCII remains steadfast in promoting friendship, peace, business and investments, trade, cultural understanding, and mutually beneficial cooperation between the Philippines and China. Let us not allow temporary disagreements to overshadow centuries of shared history and partnership. Chinese actress Zhang Yingfei, who plays “Linda Walker” in the vertical micro-drama "The Heiress Who Won With Brains," is set to tour the Philippines from June 8 to 11, 2026.

Yingfei's visit to the country is part of an education advocacy campaign under the theme “education for a better future," which was announced by the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII) on Wednesday at a press conference in Quezon City.

Zhang’s character gained traction online in the Philippines after short clips of the series spread on social media platforms. In the storyline, Linda Walker is presented as an exceptionally intelligent student with an IQ of 180, and she earns a 719 on a mock exam, a score that stands out in the drama’s fictional grading system, where results typically fall between 400 and 500.
