BETA SIGMA FRATERNITY/SIGMA BETA SORORITY REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO ANTI-HAZING LAW, DENOUCES ALL FORMS OF HAZING
Founded in UP Diliman in 1946, the "Brotherhood of Scholars" emphasizes values of excellence, service, and integrity through legitimate membership processes
Beta Sigma Fraternity, one of the Philippines’ oldest collegiate organizations established at the University of the Philippines in 1946 and widely recognized as the Brotherhood of Scholars, today issued a strong reaffirmation of its unwavering adherence to Republic Act No. 11053 (Anti-Hazing Act of 2018) and its total rejection of any form of hazing.
Sigma Beta Sorority stands in unwavering solidarity with the Anti-Hazing Law, reaffirming our commitment to a culture of respect, dignity, and genuine sisterhood. We believe that no bond should be forged through fear or physical harm, and we lead by example in ensuring that our recruitment and initiation processes remain safe and transformative. By choosing empowerment over violence, we protect the well-being of our members and uphold the highest standards of our organization. We remain dedicated to fostering an environment where every sister can thrive without compromise.
In line with the fraternity’s core principles of academic excellence, leadership, and community service, Beta Sigma Fraternity maintains that membership is earned through merit, dedication to shared values, and meaningful contribution to the organization and society – not through acts that cause physical, psychological, or emotional harm.
“We stand firm in our commitment to upholding the law and protecting the well-being of all individuals seeking to join our ranks. Hazing has no place in Beta Sigma Fraternity or in any organization that values human dignity and growth,” said BROD AMER RASHID MINDALANO, President of the Beta Sigma Fraternity Alumni Association Inc, National Assembly and Chairman of the Beta Sigma Fraternity National Council. “Our initiation and membership processes are designed to foster camaraderie, develop leadership skills, and instill a sense of responsibility – all conducted with full compliance to regulatory requirements, including advance notice to relevant authorities and proper documentation of all activities.”
The fraternity also highlighted its ongoing efforts to promote hazing prevention through awareness campaigns, partnerships with educational institutions, and mentorship programs that guide members and applicants on the importance of ethical organization practices.
Beta Sigma Fraternity encourages the public to report any suspected hazing incidents to proper authorities and pledges full cooperation with all investigations related to fraternal activities.
“For over seven decades, Beta Sigma Fraternity has produced leaders and professionals who have served the nation with honor. We will continue to build on this legacy by ensuring our practices reflect the highest standards of legality, morality, and respect for every individual,” the statement concluded.
