ADVISORY from The Philippine Embassy in Jakarta

---

The Philippine Embassy in Jakarta informs the Public that with reference to the Philippine Department of Health’s Advisory on Polio Vaccination for Travelers to the Philippines dated October 10, 2019, the Indonesian Ministry of Health, Director General of Disease Prevention and Control has instructed Port Health Offices (airports, sea ports, border-crossing posts) to increase supervision and precautionary measures to prevent spread of Polio VDPV Type 2. At all ports of entry, the Indonesian authorities may enforce the following:

• Travelers to or from the Philippines are advised to get polio immunization for at least 4 weeks before travel as evidenced by an International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICV)
• If the traveler arriving in Indonesia has not received a polio vaccination, the Port Health Office will give IPV immunization and issue the ICV on the site. The Embassy was verbally informed by Airport health officials that IPV costs RP 45,000.00 (PHP 170.00).
• If the traveler refuses to be vaccinated, he or she may be deported or prevented from entering Indonesia.

ADVISORY from the DOH
Polio Vaccination for Travelers coming to the Philippines.

On September 19, 2019, the Department of Health (DOH) declared a Polio Epidemic. The World Health Organization stated that the risk of international spread of polio is low, however, the risk of transmission and recirculation within the Philippines is high due to low population immunity.

The Philippine Department of Health, as the lead agency mandated to ensure health of all its citizens and visitors, recommends the following measures to provide protection and assurance to all concerned.

FOR ALL TRAVELERS ENTERING THE PHILIPPINES:
• Foreign nationals and returning Filipinos of all ages who are intending to stay in the Philippines for four weeks and more are encouraged to receive a single dose of inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV) not later than four weeks before their scheduled travel to the Philippines. Given that the traveler has not received polio vaccination in the last 12 months.
• Travelers undertaking urgent travel within four weeks, are recommended to receive a single dose of IPV at least by the time of departures as this will still provide benefits. Particularly for frequent travelers.

FOR ALL TRAVELERS LEAVING THE PHILIPPINES:
