Uratex Group of Companies, in collaboration with waste recovery partner Republic Cement, achieved its target of recovering 60% of its plastic waste footprint in 2025.

This initiative complies with the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Act, which mandates enterprises to recover and manage their plastic footprint.

In the coming years, the group aims to improve its packaging recyclability, underscoring its commitment to strengthening its programs towards a more responsible operation.

𝙐𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙭 𝙂𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙥 𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙅𝙉𝙀𝘾; 𝙀𝙭𝙥𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙨 𝙞𝙩𝙨 𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙬𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙜𝙮 𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙨

As part of its renewable energy expansion efforts, Uratex Group of Companies, one of the country’s leading manufacturers of polyurethane foam products, partners with retail electricity supplier Jin Navitas Electric Corporation (JNEC) to supply 23 of its manufacturing plants and properties with 100% renewable energy under the Retail Aggregation Program (RAP).

“After this partnership, we will have 95% of our requirements sourced through renewable sources. When we built our first-ever solar plant, that’s less than 5%, so thank you to companies like JNEC that really aspire for something bigger than ourselves,” emphasized Ms. Peachy Medina, Managing Director of Uratex Group of Companies.

This partnership, started on June 18, aligns with the group’s efforts in achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 and affirms its commitment to the Department of Energy’s target of reaching 35% renewable energy by 2030.

Since 2016, the group has continued to expand its renewable energy portfolio, with over 93% of its power currently being sourced from renewable energy sources.

“For companies like Uratex, whose products are used by millions of Filipino households, lower operating cost can ultimately help those products to be more affordable and accessible to consumers. This is aligned with our broader purpose in general,” said Mr. Alfie Miras, President and COO of JNEC.

Apart from transitioning to renewable energy, the company focuses on waste management, water conservation, and product development, all designed to minimize environmental impact.

“We still have a lot to go in regard to our sustainability journey, and I hope that we will encourage one another and create a better place. Leave it better than we found it,” shared Ms. Peachy.

This strategic partnership with JNEC under RAP reinforces Uratex’s dedication to sustainable manufacturing, further solidifying its progress toward a net-zero future by 2050.

Eliza Mae Bande’s journey from a young woman with a passion for fashion to a Magna Cum Laude graduate in Tourism Management is a testament to the balance between personal ambition and practical reality. Coming from a household where financial limitations were a barrier to entering higher education, she viewed college as the primary vehicle to uplift her family's economic situation.

𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙍𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝘿𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙢𝙨

The second eldest of three children, Eliza Mae grew up wanting to become a fashion designer. Recognizing that the fashion industry might offer limited career paths, she pivoted to Tourism Management at Lyceum of Alabang. This shift was motivated by a desire for a field that provided more opportunities, demonstrating her foresight in prioritizing long-term stability over immediate gratification.

𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙏𝙪𝙧𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙋𝙤𝙞𝙣𝙩

Despite her determination, the reality of college tuition remained a significant hurdle until she became a scholar of Robert Go Cheng/Uratex Foundation through his father, Romel Bande, who works for the company.

“Happy ako noong nabigyan ako ng scholarship opportunity, since ‘yung program ko ay financially demanding when it comes to tuition fee,” she shared.

It alleviated the financially demanding burden of her program, allowing her to shift her focus entirely from survival to academic excellence, which ultimately paved the way for her Magna Cum Laude achievement last May 30.

“Noong second year college, meron po kaming educational tour na 10,000 pesos ‘yung cost niya. Malaking pera po ‘yun kasi biglaan. Thankful ako kasi may allowance na binigay ang Uratex at nakapagbayad kami on time,” she emphasized.

Eliza’s journey is a powerful testament to how redirection, supported by opportunity, can transform a life. As she now guides her juniors and shares her wisdom, she demonstrates that her education has provided her with the tools not only to uplift her family but to empower the next generation of students.

Driven by a commitment to continuous improvement, the visit focused on reviewing welding practices and identifying areas for improvement.
