After its restoration effort since last year, the Port of Cagayan de Oro finally welcomed its maiden voyage which commence the restoration of the international containerized shipment in Macabalan Port after 12 years.
MV AS Romina arrived in Cagayan de Oro on Monday, March 14, 2022, from China carrying 208 container vans that contained various imported products like buttermilk, dry veneer, frozen products, truck parts, appliances, furniture along with others from various consignees in Northern Mindanao.
The arrival of the maiden voyage was witnessed by customs officials led by Deputy Collector for Operations Elizabeth Delas Llagas, Deputy Collector for Administration Atty. Roswald Joseph Pague including Oroport Cargo Handling Services officials led by its Vice President Lindsey Bernacer, Executive Secretary B**g Pelones, and Port Services Division Manager Ruby Gumapon.
A walk-through was also done to check the readiness of the facility inside the Philippine Ports Authority which was witnessed by SP/Capt. Abdila Maulana Jr., District Commander, ESS-CDO; SP/Lt. Arkhan Macaombang, Deputy District Commander, ESS-CDO, and CDO X-Ray Inspection Project Chief Ramsey Arado together with customs examiner and appraiser.
The CMA CGM Philippines, Inc. estimates the arrival of 3-4 international containerized shipments in Cagayan de Oro every month but with the inclusion of other shipping lines, the Port of Cagayan de Oro hopes the arrivals will increase to boost the revenue generation capability of the port.
District Collector Atty. Elvira Cruz commends the men and women of the Port of Cagayan de Oro who pushed for the restoration of the international containerized shipment in Macabalan Port as this development is expected to boost the business and economic climate in Northern Mindanao.
