Matthew 6:19–23
The Treasure and The Eye.
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and decay destroy, and thieves break in and steal. But store up treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor decay destroys, nor thieves break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be. “The lamp of the body is the eye. If your eye is sound, your whole body will be filled with light; but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be in darkness. And if the light in you is darkness, how great will the darkness be.”

The gospel is teaching us to have proper perspective. With discernment, we are able to see the real value of material things. May we now begin to walk in the light, not in darkness. Let us invest in the things that bring us to eternal life.

God bless us all!

Matthew 6:7-15
Jesus Teaches How to Pray.
Jesus said to his disciples:
“In praying, do not babble like the pagans, who think that they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them. Your Father knows what you need before you ask him. “This is how you are to pray: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. “If you forgive men their transgressions, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you do not forgive men, neither will your Father forgive your transgressions.”

What Jesus is warning us are useless or meaningless words. That is why He gave a simple yet powerful and complete prayer, the “Our Father”. For some reasons, we do not know how to pray. The “Our Father” comes in handy. It is a beautiful prayer. Let us use it more often, digesting the meaning of every word as we utter them.

God bless us all!

Matthew 6:1-6, 16-18
Giving Alms, Praying and Fasting.
Jesus said to his disciples:
“Take care not to perform righteous deeds in order that people may see them; otherwise, you will have no recompense from your heavenly Father. When you give alms, do not blow a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets to win the praise of others. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right is doing, so that your almsgiving may be secret. And your Father who sees in secret will repay you. “When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, who love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on street corners so that others may see them. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go to your inner room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will repay you. “When you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites. They neglect their appearance, so that they may appear to others to be fasting. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you may not appear to be fasting, except to your Father who is hidden. And your Father who sees what is hidden will repay you.”

A devout follower of Jesus is supposed to engage in the regular activities of praying, fasting and almsgiving. These are spiritual obligations that we do in order to deepen our relationship with God and give Him all the glory that is due Him. We pray and fast in order to seek the attention of God, not public adulation. We give alms to the poor because we are taught to be compassionate, not to gain the praise of men. When we do these activities with the proper motivation, then God will surely reward us not only in heaven but also in the present life. This is the kind of piety that is required of Jesus’ disciples.

God bless us all!

Matthew 5:43-48
Be Perfect.
Jesus said to his disciples: “You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your heavenly Father, for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good, and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have? Do not the tax collectors do the same?
And if you greet your brothers only, what is unusual about that? Do not the pagans do the same? So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

Jesus challenges us to transform our relationships through radical love and forgiveness. By applying these principles in our workplaces, families, and communities, we can create a more compassionate and understanding world. Let us strive to embody the perfect love of our Heavenly Father, shining as beacons of His grace in all our interactions.

God bless us all!

Matthew 5:38-42
Retaliation and Revenge.
Jesus said to his disciples:
“You have heard that it was said, An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. But I say to you, offer no resistance to one who is evil. When someone strikes you on your right cheek, turn the other one to him as well. If anyone wants to go to law with you over your tunic, hand him your cloak as well.
Should anyone press you into service for one mile, go with him for two miles. Give to the one who asks of you, and do not turn your back on one who wants to borrow.”

Jesus is simply challenging us to exercise our freedom to act in a different way – the way of love, compassion, and forgiveness. In the Christian life, there is no room for retaliation and revenge. In every situation, we should never forget that we are sons and daughters of a loving God and we should always treat others the way we want them to treat us. (Golden Rule).

God bless us all!

Matthew 9:36 – 10:8
At the sight of the crowds, his heart was moved with pity for them because they were troubled and abandoned, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest.” Then he summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits to drive them out and to cure every disease and every illness. The names of the twelve apostles are these: first, Simon called Peter, and his brother Andrew; James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John; Philip and Bartholomew, Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James, the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddeus; Simon the Cananean, and Judas Iscariot who betrayed him. Jesus sent out these twelve after instructing them thus, “Do not go into pagan territory or enter a Samaritan town. Go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. As you go, make this proclamation: ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, drive out demons. Without cost you have received; without cost you are to give.

The gifts of the Holy Spirit has been given to us freely, let us serve the people of God freely, without expecting reward or recognition. For it is Jesus whom we actually serve and it is Jesus who will bless us and give what is due to us whether at the present time and in the life beyond.

God bless us all!

Luke 2: 41-51
Jesus in the Temple.
Each year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the feast of Passover, and when he was twelve years old, they went up according to festival custom. After they had completed its days, as they were returning, the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem, but his parents did not know it. Thinking that he was in the caravan, they journeyed for a day and looked for him among their relatives and acquaintances, but not finding him, they returned to Jerusalem to look for him. After three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions,
and all who heard him were astounded at his understanding and his answers. When his parents saw him, they were astonished, and his mother said to him, “Son, why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been looking for you with great anxiety.” And he said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?” But they did not understand what he said to them. He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them.

Let us use our heart to deepen our relationship with God. Let us have time to meditate. When we are puzzled and troubled by events in the world, let us look deeply into our heart and there we might see the message of God. If not, God is calling us to trust in Him.

God bless us all!

Matthew 11:25-30
At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do. “All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

If you are feeling overwhelmed today, hear Jesus’ invitation as though it’s spoken directly to you. He is waiting to give you the rest your soul craves. Bring your burdens to Him in prayer, surrender your worries, and trust in His gentle and humble heart.

God bless us all!

Matthew 10:7-13
Jesus said to his Apostles: “As you go, make this proclamation: ‘The Kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, drive out demons. Without cost you have received; without cost you are to give. Do not take gold or silver or copper for your belts; no sack for the journey, or a second tunic, or sandals, or walking stick. The laborer deserves his keep. Whatever town or village you enter, look for a worthy person in it, and stay there until you leave.
As you enter a house, wish it peace. If the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it; if not, let your peace return to you.

When Jesus is king in all aspect of our life, we don’t worry about anything. His very presence in our midst is more precious than gold or silver. That is why, He urges us to “seek first the kingdom of God and all these things shall be given unto you.” (Matthew 6:33)

God bless us all!

Matthew 5:17-19
The Law.
Jesus said to his disciples:
“Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place. Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the Kingdom of heaven. But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the Kingdom of heaven.”

May our faith be strengthened and our hearts inspired by the truth of Jesus’ teachings. May we shine brightly as a faithful disciple, reflecting the glory of our Savior who perfectly fulfilled the Law and calls us to follow Him with all our heart, soul, and mind.

God bless us all!
