CDO Kumustahan highlights export concerns and opportunities for growth

The Philippine Exporters Confederation, Inc. (PHILEXPORT) brought its Kumustahan Session to Cagayan de Oro, gathering PHILEXPORT CDO chapter leaders, government agencies, and industry stakeholders for discussions on the concerns, challenges, and opportunities facing exporters in Northern Mindanao.

As logistics remains a key sector for the region, a major and recurring challenge raised was the increasing port charges and congestion at the Cagayan de Oro port, adding to the cost and constraints in doing business in the region. Also needing urgent resolutions are requirements affecting coconut shell exports, export documentation and compliance, and the need for clearer and more streamlined processes from the relevant government agencies.

The session also explored potential projects and services that can support exporters while generating sustainable income for the chapter. Being explored are fumigation, standardized export packaging, and other export-related services. These initiatives aim to respond to the needs of exporters while creating opportunities to strengthen the chapter’s sustainability.

The discussions in Cagayan de Oro provided a valuable opportunity to better understand the realities faced by exporters in the region and identify areas where PHILEXPORT and its partners can work together to address operational challenges and develop initiatives that support the chapter and its members.

Davao Kumustahan raised issues and opportunities to grow exports

The Philippine Exporters Confederation, Inc. (PHILEXPORT) brought its Kumustahan Session to Davao City late September, gathering Davao Chapter leaders, national officers, government agencies, industry partners, and other stakeholders for meaningful discussions on the concerns, challenges, and opportunities facing exporters in the region.

Among the concerns raised were access to financing for agriculture-related enterprises, export and customs procedures, documentation and penalties, shipping and container-related issues, and the need for more responsive processes that consider the specific circumstances of Mindanao exporters.

Participants also discussed industry-specific concerns in the coconut and banana sectors, as well as opportunities for stronger collaboration among government agencies, financial institutions, and industry groups.

The engagement continued through plant visits to Eng Seng Company’s durian processing plant, Millenium Specialty Coco Products, Inc. (MSCPI), and Sagrex Foods Corporation, providing a closer look at local processing and export operations.

The Kumustahan series continues to provide an avenue to share ongoing projects and activities, explore future initiatives, and strengthen linkages among PHILEXPORT, its chapters, and government partners.

Agricultural warehouse and storage operators have until 31 December to register their facilities with the government under a Department of Agriculture (DA) initiative designed to improve inventory monitoring and help detect smuggling, hoarding and other market abuses.

Agriculture Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel Jr. directed DA officials to widely publicize the year-end deadline and ensure potential registrants have enough time to comply.

THE Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) is giving online sellers, digital merchants and other covered taxpayers more time to comply with the requirement to display their BIR Registration Seal Badge on their digital platforms.

In a statement Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2026, BIR said it issued Revenue Memorandum Circular No. 99-2026, extending to Oct. 31, the period for online sellers, online merchants, digital platform operators, and other covered taxpayers to comply with the requirement to display their Seal Badge on their websites, e-commerce or e-marketplace pages, social media accounts, and other digital platforms.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) launched the Negosyo Center Online Portal 2.0 on Sept. 28, giving Filipino entrepreneurs digital access to business services, learning resources, and mentoring support.

The DTI launched the enhanced portal at its National Capital Region office in Makati City. The platform, developed by the Negosyo Center Program Management Office, brings key services into one digital hub, including business registration assistance, advisory services, updated educational modules, and one-on-one virtual pro bono coaching from certified mentors.

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has launched the Registered Business Enterprise Taxpayer Service (RBETS), designed to cater exclusively to the country’s over 5,900 RBEs.

Launched on January 27, RBETS will assist with tax compliance and ensure the prompt resolution of issues, the Department of Finance (DOF) said in a statement.
