Stakeholders at the 2026 National Forum on Strengthening MSME Disaster Resilience reaffirmed a shared commitment to building stronger, more resilient, and future-ready Filipino micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
Held in Cebu City on July 23 with the theme “Negosyong Matatag: Building Resilient MSMEs for a Resilient Future”, the event brought together leaders from government, business, the academe, development partners, and MSMEs who shared the importance of strengthening resilience as a key driver of competitiveness, sustainability, and inclusive economic growth. The panel discussions focused on business continuity, disaster risk reduction, climate adaptation, digital transformation, supply chain resilience, access to finance, and policy reforms that will enable MSMEs to better withstand and recover from disruptions.
A major highlight of the Forum was the renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) among the members of the MSME Resilience Core Group (RCG), reaffirming their collective commitment to advancing resilience through policy advocacy, capacity-building, knowledge sharing, research, and the implementation of programs that equip MSMEs to prepare for, respond to, and recover from various risks.
The RCG, which also celebrated it’s 10th anniversary, is led by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI). Other members are the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Office of Civil Defense (OCD), Philippine Exporters Confederation, Inc. (PHILEXPORT), Asia Pacific Alliance for Disaster Management-Philippines (APAD), Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC), and the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP).
The MOU aims to continue to strengthen the capacity of Philippine MSMEs not only to survive disruptions but to thrive amid an increasingly uncertain domestic and global environments.
Another special feature was the inaugural “Matatag Awards” that honored MSMEs that have demonstrated exceptional leadership, innovation, and commitment to resilience by adopting measures that enabled their businesses to withstand crises, adapt to changing conditions, and emerge stronger. Their inspiring stories serve as powerful examples that resilience is not merely about surviving adversity—it is about transforming challenges into opportunities for sustainable growth and inspiring other enterprises to do the same.
