The Philippine Coffee Quality Competition (PCQC) 2026 officially opened today, May 21, 2026, at the Sultan Kudarat Convention Center in Tacurong City β marking a historic first as the countryβs premier coffee quality competition is hosted in Region 12.
Bringing together coffee farmers, producers, cuppers, roasters, industry leaders, government agencies, academe, and private sector partners, PCQC 2026 serves as a celebration of Philippine coffee excellence and a shared commitment to advancing the quality and global competitiveness of Filipino coffee.
The opening ceremony was led by the Department of Trade and Industry Region XII together with partner agencies and institutions including the Department of Agriculture, Mindanao Development Authority, Sultan Kudarat State University, the City Government of Tacurong, and the Provincial Government of Sultan Kudarat.
One of the highlighted speakers during the opening ceremony was Ms. Rosario M. Cruz, CEO of the Barista & Coffee Academy of Asia, who initiated the Philippine Coffee Quality Competition in 2018. She also played a vital role in guiding the newly formed Technical Working Group (TWG) together with TWG Chairperson Ms. Marietta D. Claver, helping strengthen the foundation and direction of PCQC 2026.
Industry partners and supporters from across the Philippine coffee community also joined the historic launch, reflecting the strong collaboration behind this yearβs competition and the continuing efforts to uplift Filipino coffee farmers and coffee-producing communities.
Regional Director Flora D. Politud-Gabunales, in her welcome remarks, emphasized Region 12βs growing role in the Philippine coffee industry and reaffirmed the commitment to promoting quality, sustainability, and greater opportunities for local coffee stakeholders.
The program featured presentations on the PCQC rationale, coffee market promotion initiatives, industry support programs, and collaborative strategies aimed at strengthening the Philippine coffee sector. The event also included the awarding of Halal certificates to Region 12 coffee MSMEs and the ceremonial turnover of farm inputs to coffee farmers.
As PCQC 2026 officially begins, Region 12 proudly welcomes the Philippine coffee community for a meaningful celebration of quality, collaboration, and the future of Philippine coffee.
