One of the most common CV mistakes we had noticed is listing job responsibilities without showing impact.

Employers particularly HR Managers or HR Personnel don’t just want to know what you did — they want to understand how well you did it.

In skilled trades, logistics, construction, and technical roles, measurable performance is what sets candidates apart.

What to do?

Whenever possible, add numbers, outcomes, or scale to your experience:

• Years of experience
• Volume of work completed
• Projects delivered
• Efficiency improvements
• Safety, quality, or uptime records

Example:

Before:
Responsible for maintaining heavy equipment and repairing machinery.

After:
Maintained and repaired heavy equipment fleet supporting 15+ construction machines, reducing equipment downtime by 25% through proactive maintenance scheduling and timely repairs.

Key reminder:

If it can be measured, it should be mentioned. Numbers make your experience more credible and competitive.

Remember, the core rule of CV writing remains the same: recruiters do not hire based on a list of duties and responsibilities. They look for evidence of your capabilities, achievements, safety awareness, reliability, and ability to perform the physical and technical demands of the role.

Instead of simply stating what your job was, demonstrate how well you performed it and the value you brought to your employer.
