This week the Factory Acceptance Testing was completed for yet another first for us here. A very special project installed through two conjoined containers and destined for one of the most remote locations we have supplied yet.
This G100 general and municipal waste incinerator will very soon be shipping off to the to be installed at a research station on Adelaide Island.
Designed to manage the disposal of all waste created by the research station that houses approximately 100 people during the summer and only 22 during the winter. Due to the extreme cold that this machine will be operating additional considerations were required to ensure it is able to sustainably perform the task of maintaining the natural habitat and erasing any environmental impact that the research facility may have.
We know that we are going to have some simply staggering site photos coming back to us later this year.

A lot can change in 8 years, and for Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council they have been seeing immense growth. Barnsley Council came to Addfield in 2016, with the ambition of being the first council-run pet crematorium, and working together, it was apparent a containerised PET200 would be the perfect machine for them. Then two years later in 2018 they became the first council in the UK to provide pet cremation services and they did so with our equipment.

Cannon Hall Pet Crematorium was such a huge triumph that their new PET200 joins their 1st machine, with an extension to the front of the container, shutter doors that roll down, an accessible ramp and a personnel door at the rear of the container, aiming to increase the accessibility and comfort for anyone who will be using the machines.

It’s great to see councils expanding and innovating, and the addition of the pet crematorium to Cannon Hall provides a genuine and affordable service for the local community, more job opportunities and peace of mind for pet owners who are familiar with the local heritage site Cannon Hall Park.

We had some great news earlier this week as we have been shortlisted for two more awards in the 2024 Express and Star Business Awards. We have been shortlisted for both Manufacturing Champion and Small to Medium Sized Business of the Year. Both categories that we are ridiculously proud to have been shortlisted for. Although we are sure we will be up against tough competition we will be welcoming the judges to our factory in April to show exactly what makes us worthy of these awards this year. The awards themselves are being presented later in the year on the 13th June so you will just have to wait until then to find out if we were successful, fingers crossed. Who needs the ?

Tonight Derek our MD is once again off to mingle with the cream of the exporting crop from the Midlands at the latest Midlands Engine, get-together. As we continue to grow our reach these events are a fantastic opportunity to meet other businesses from across the midlands all invited because of their international success in recent years.
This event is focussing on one of our biggest challenges with ‘Market Access Barriers’ every time we break a new country we have many hurdles to overcome so learning from others really pays off.
Most importantly however is the entire evening is wrapped up with what is hopefully a delicious dinner and the chance to network with many local businesses and sharing our successes whilst learning from them.
It should be a great night and as always it’s a real privilege to be invited.

Carrying on the fun from last week, we have another huge order starting to ship out, this time to Sudan and it is 2 GM750s out of an order of 10! The World Health Organisation (WHO), chose Addfield to supply multiple machines to tackle medical waste in Sudan. Wet scrubbers have been included on each machine to reduce the emissions.

In this instance, we are unable to send engineers out to install the machine, so for the past few weeks, we have been filming training videos with engineer Emmanuel, so that it can be installed and maintained properly in Sudan. Thank you, Emmanuel, for your help!
Two more are set to ship out tomorrow, and it is great to see the team coming together to getting these medical incinerators shipped out North Africa.

This week our Operations Director James, made a slightly further than usual journey to visit a customer. Travelling 4000 miles from our head office in the heart of the UK all the way to Saudi Arabia supported by the team at EIT our distributors for the region. During this visit, a number of exciting propositions were discussed for what looks to be a very exciting project for the near future. We always aim to support our customers no matter the challenges to help them make the right decisions when it comes to choosing an incinerator and site visits are not uncommon even if this one was a little further than usual.

While our sales team were flying back from our busiest Arab Health yet, Alison and our HR team were attending a slightly less expansive but no less important exhibition of their own.
Held at the head office of Make UK in Birmingham our team took part in our first jobs fair of the year getting to meet people directly interested in one of the many careers available at Addfield in our manufacturing departments. Meeting a range of highly experienced as well as new to the jobs market people looking for apprenticeships or their next opportunity but all looking for a career with real prospects.
This was a great opportunity for us to meet what could be the next generation of Addfield experts. It takes a lot of hard work to build all of our incinerators and cremators back in our head office and we are very proud of the team we have working in the factory many of whom we have seen work upwards in their roles becoming supervisors and managers over time making way for the next generation. It was a fantastic event that we were very grateful to have been able to participate in.
