Are Filipinos still fighting today’s battles using yesterday’s tools?

The First Quarter Storm generation believed that ideology, organization, and street mobilization could transform society. The People Power generation demonstrated that moral authority, unity, and peaceful mass action could topple even the most entrenched political power. Both movements shaped Philippine history and inspired generations.

But politics has changed.

Power today is no longer exercised only through government institutions, political machinery, or control of the streets. It is increasingly exercised through control of information, narratives, algorithms, networks, and public attention. The battlefield has shifted from plazas and universities to smartphones, social media feeds, data analytics, and digital ecosystems.
