At the heart of the Philippines lies an island rich in natural beauty, cultural heritage, local ingenuity, and untapped potential. MARINDUQUE REIMAGINED presents a vision of a province where tourism, innovation, connectivity, and community development work together to create lasting opportunities for its people.

AGRITEKTURA @ Virdalis PH Farm, Quezon

AGRITEKTURA conducted a site ocular and benchmarking visit at Virdalis PH Farm in Quezon to study the duckweed production process, from cultivation and harvesting to processing and pellet production, as a locally available alternative feed ingredient.

The visit supports AGRITEKTURA’s continuing exploration of sustainable, cost-efficient and regenerative solutions for aquaculture. The knowledge gained will help guide the development of potential pilot sites across MIMAROPA, with the goal of promoting localized feed production, reducing dependence on conventional commercial feeds and strengthening resilient territorial food systems.

Forging Marinduque’s Creative Future through Design, Emerging Technology and Skills Development

The AGRITEKTURA team, led by its Prime Mover and Lead Agritect, Ptr. | Ar. Ran Quijano, and joined by CARE Operations Coordinator Mr. Christian Joel Fabella, visited the TESDA Provincial Training Center Marinduque to explore the capabilities of the DTI Shared Service Facility for the Creative Industry and identify strategic opportunities for future collaboration.

The visit was joined by Mr. Roniel Macatol, Provincial Director of DTI Marinduque, and Ms. Llena P. Moreno, Administrator of TESDA PTC Marinduque.

Discussions focused on a potential partnership where AGRITEKTURA could provide mentoring in design, product development and innovation while helping introduce training in emerging technologies through TESDA Micro Credential Courses.

Through the combined strengths of DTI, TESDA and AGRITEKTURA, the initiative could help maximize the facility’s advanced equipment, strengthen local creative enterprises and transform ideas into market ready products and sustainable livelihood opportunities.

REVISITING THE HOPE’S HAVEN
A Partnership Continuing to Grow

AGRITEKTURA recently revisited The Hope’s Haven Integrated Agrifarm Project in General Trias City, Cavite, our first Smart AquaFarm project in the province and an important milestone in our mission to develop sustainable and integrated food production systems.

The Hope’s Haven also became the first partner farm to employ a completer of the Smart Aquaculture Operations, Maintenance and Management Micro Credential Course. This milestone demonstrates how skills training can lead directly to meaningful employment and industry practice.

What began with the establishment of the portaSHIP Aquatecture System is now entering its next stage of development. With AGRITEKTURA’s support and endorsement, The Hope’s Haven successfully secured a Grants in Aid grant from DOST NCR for solar energy integration, further strengthening the farm’s efficiency, resilience, and sustainability.

The partnership is also expanding into skills development and new enterprise opportunities through the proposed introduction of TESDA Micro Credential Programs and Virdalis duckweed production as a sustainable aquaculture input and potential livelihood venture.

This revisit represents more than a project follow up. It reaffirms a long term partnership committed to improving systems, developing skilled people, creating employment, and opening greater opportunities for sustainable agriculture and aquaculture.

From smart aquaculture and renewable energy to workforce development and sustainable feed production, AGRITEKTURA and The Hope’s Haven continue to build toward a more resilient and productive future.

AGRITEKTURA Bridges Research, Skills and Industry in UPLB–TESDA Mechanization Dialogue

AGRITEKTURA reaffirmed its vital role as an industry and innovation partner during an onsite Focus Group Discussion and Key Informant Interview conducted by the University of the Philippines Los Baños with TESDA MIMAROPA on August 17, 2026.

The activity formed part of the UPLB and DOST PCAARRD project titled “A Unified Agricultural and Fisheries Mechanization Industry Roadmap in Support of the Agricultural and Fisheries Mechanization Law.” The project seeks to assess the country’s agricultural and fisheries mechanization industry and contribute to the formulation of a unified and strategic national roadmap.

Represented by its Prime Mover and Lead Agritect, Ptr. | Ar. Ran Quijano, who also serves as Chairman of the Regional Technical Education and Skills Development Committee MIMAROPA, AGRITEKTURA brought a strong field based and industry driven perspective to the discussion. Drawing from its experience in developing smart aquaculture systems, operating a TESDA farm school, delivering the pioneering Smart Aquaculture Micro Credential Course, and working directly with communities, enterprises and government institutions, AGRITEKTURA helped connect national research objectives with the actual needs and conditions of regional industries.

AGRITEKTURA emphasized that successful mechanization requires more than the introduction of equipment. It must be supported by relevant competency standards, responsive training programs, skilled workers, accessible technologies, enterprise development and strong partnerships among government, academe and industry. Emerging technologies such as sensors, automation, smart monitoring, recirculating systems, renewable energy and data driven farm management must also be reflected in the future direction of technical vocational education and training.

TESDA MIMAROPA, led by Regional Director Baron Jose L. Lagran, contributed its institutional perspective on workforce development, training delivery and the evolving skills requirements of the agriculture and fisheries sectors. Meanwhile, the UPLB research team gathered valuable regional insights that can help ensure that the proposed roadmap responds to realities beyond the national center. The meeting demonstrated the importance of connecting UPLB’s research expertise, DOST PCAARRD’s science and technology mandate, TESDA’s skills development system and AGRITEKTURA’s practical industry experience. Through this convergence, research can be transformed into relevant programs, technologies into usable solutions and mechanization into genuine opportunities for livelihood, food security and community resilience.

For AGRITEKTURA, this engagement reflects its continuing commitment to help shape policies and programs that are grounded in real world experience and designed for long term impact.

AGRITEKTURA × Virdalis: Cultivating the Future Together

Bringing Global Innovation to the Fields and Communities of Mindoro

The future of food is not something we wait for. We cultivate it.

A new chapter in agricultural innovation begins as AGRITEKTURA and Virdalis Philippines Inc. join forces in a strategic partnership to advance sustainable agriculture, aquaculture, alternative protein, technology, research, and community development in the Philippines.

The partnership brings together two complementary strengths. Virdalis brings biotechnology, alternative protein research, and international innovation, while AGRITEKTURA brings an integrated approach to agriculture, aquaculture, architecture, technology, education, and community transformation. Together, they are exploring how Wolffia and Lemna, two groups of duckweed with promising potential as alternative protein sources, can contribute to more sustainable feed systems, stronger local supply chains, and new livelihood opportunities for farming and aquaculture communities.

Virdalis is part of a Singapore based parent company, bringing international agri biotechnology expertise into the Philippine agricultural landscape. The company is focused on developing scalable and low carbon alternative protein solutions for the animal feed industry, with its work centered on the cultivation, processing, and application of Wolffia and Lemna. Its technology and production systems seek to provide new sources of protein that can support aquaculture and livestock while reducing dependence on conventional feed ingredients. The presence of Virdalis in the Philippines creates an important opportunity to connect global innovation with local agricultural realities. Its Philippine activities, including pilot initiatives, provide a foundation for developing and testing technologies under local conditions while exploring pathways toward commercial production and wider adoption.

AGRITEKTURA brings this innovation closer to the community. Based in Mindoro, AGRITEKTURA is a multidisciplinary movement integrating agriculture, architecture, technology, education, environment, health, commerce, community, tourism, culture, and other allied sectors toward sustainable community development. Its prototype farms and stations serve as living platforms where agricultural and aquaculture technologies can be demonstrated, tested, taught, and developed. Through collaborations with institutions and government agencies including DA ATI, BFAR, DOST, TESDA, and DTI AGRITEKTURA continues to build an ecosystem where innovation can move from research and technology into practical community applications.

FROM PARTNERSHIP TO ACTION
The significance of this partnership lies not only in the organizations involved, but in what happens next. The next phase brought Virdalis’ knowledge and technology directly to Mindoro through a lecture and technical knowledge sharing session focused on Wolffia and Lemna, their cultivation, their nutritional potential, and their possible applications in sustainable agriculture, aquaculture, and livestock production. But the initiative will not stop at knowledge sharing. Following the lecture, a starter packages were deployed in Mindoro, providing an initial platform for practical cultivation, demonstration, observation, and experimentation. This marks an important transition from learning to actual field application. The goal is simple but ambitious to begin creating a local environment where new technologies can be understood, tested, adapted, and eventually scaled.

From knowledge to cultivation.

From production to enterprise.
From enterprise to livelihood.

The initial deployment can serve as a foundation for future demonstration sites and field based research. It can provide farmers, aquaculture practitioners, educators, students, and entrepreneurs with an opportunity to experience and evaluate the technology under Philippine conditions.

CULTIVATING MORE THAN DUCKWEED

The real opportunity is bigger than Wolffia and Lemna themselves. The partnership is about cultivating an ecosystem of innovation. It is about creating opportunities for farmers to become technology adopters and entrepreneurs. It is about giving aquaculture communities access to emerging feed solutions. It is about allowing students and educators to experience biotechnology through actual production systems. It is about transforming farms into living laboratories where innovation can be demonstrated and shared.

Most importantly, it is about connecting technology with people.
AGRITEKTURA and Virdalis will explore opportunities for Wolffia and Lemna production and demonstration sites, sustainable feed applications, research, training, capacity building, technology development, commercialization, and community based livelihood opportunities across MIMAROPA.

WHY MINDORO MATTERS

Mindoro is more than the location where this initiative will begin. It has the potential to become a living laboratory for the future of Philippine agriculture and aquaculture. Mindoro is part of the MIMAROPA Region. The region possesses significant agricultural and fisheries resources, while its communities continue to face challenges involving production costs, dependence on external inputs, climate pressures, resource efficiency, and access to emerging technologies.

These challenges also create opportunities. Mindoro can become a place where technologies are not simply introduced but tested, adapted, improved, and transformed into solutions that communities can actually use. They can become demonstration sites for future food systems. Young people can become more than learners. From Systemic Problems to Sustainable Community Development

Complex societal challenges cannot be solved through isolated projects or fragmented interventions. They require systems thinking. An integrated approach that connects people, institutions, infrastructure, innovation, and governance to create long-term, sustainable impact.

Representing AGRITEKTURA, Ptr. | Ar. Ran Quijano, Prime Mover and Lead Agritect, served as a Resource Speaker at the GoodGov Exchange: Legislators’ Roundtable Discussion organized by the Jesse M. Robredo Foundation. The gathering convened Members of the House of Representatives, governance leaders, policy experts, and development practitioners to explore transformative solutions for the country’s most pressing challenges.

During the forum, Ptr. | Ar. Ran Quijano presented the AGRITEKTURA Innovation Ecosystem. A systems-based framework founded on a simple yet transformative principle:

From Systemic Problems to Systemic Solutions.

Instead of responding to individual issues with isolated programs, AGRITEKTURA advocates for Building Systems that Transform Communities through four interconnected pillars:

1. Systemic Solutions — addressing root causes by designing integrated innovation ecosystems rather than implementing stand-alone projects.

2. Shared Spaces and Shared Services — developing collaborative hubs where government, academe, industry, and communities converge to innovate, create opportunities, and maximize shared resources.

3. Skills Development — empowering people with future-ready competencies through technical education, entrepreneurship, innovation, and lifelong learning, recognizing that people are the most valuable drivers of sustainable development.

4. Sustainable Community Development — creating resilient, self-sustaining communities where innovation, livelihoods, food systems, enterprise development, and environmental stewardship are interconnected within a single ecosystem.

This systems approach illustrates that lasting transformation is not measured by the number of projects completed, but by the strength of the systems established—systems that continue creating opportunities long after individual programs have ended.

The dialogue also provided an opportunity to engage with distinguished legislators who successfully completed the GoodGov Exchange Fellowship Program, including Rep. Agay Cruz (Bulacan), Rep. Cha Hernandez (2nd District, Calamba City, Laguna), Rep. Nina Ma. Francesca P. Lacson (Manila Teachers Party-list), Rep. Lenlen Oreta (Malabon), Rep. Gerald Galang (Valenzuela), Rep. Tony B. Roman III (1st District, Bataan), and Rep. Niko Raul S.J. Daza (1st District, Northern Samar). Also joining the discussions was Ms. Amelia M. Hernandez, Officer-in-Charge of the City Agriculture, Fisheries and Aquatic Services Office of Parañaque City.

AGRITEKTURA likewise shared its ongoing collaborations with DOST, DTI, TESDA, BFAR, MINSU, local government units, academic institutions, and industry partners, demonstrating how multi-sector collaboration can transform fragmented initiatives into integrated innovation ecosystems that deliver measurable and lasting impact.

AGRITEKTURA extends its heartfelt congratulations to the GoodGov Exchange Fellows for successfully completing the fellowship program and expresses its appreciation to Senator Bam Aquino for supporting initiatives that cultivate ethical leadership, innovation, and evidence-based policymaking. The organization also thanks the Jesse M. Robredo Foundation for creating a platform where innovators and policymakers can work together in shaping responsive legislation and future-ready governance.
